White House proposes path to citizenship for 1.8 million people
CNN ^

Posted on 01/25/2018 2:19:04 PM PST by janetjanet998

Washington (CNN)President Donald Trump is proposing giving 1.8 million young undocumented immigrants a pathway to citizenship in exchange for $25 billion for his long-promised wall and a host of other strict immigration cuts, according to a framework proposed Thursday. The outlines of the deal were described by a White House official for staff on Capitol Hill that CNN was given access to on Thursday afternoon. In what the White House official called a "dramatic concession," Trump would accept a path to citizenship for not just those originally eligible for DACA but for a broader population, adding up to 1.8 million people, the official said.

And you must be a jerk. My ancestors came here in the 1600s as planters from England.

I just happen to live in the real world

It’s basically what has been discussed already ...

DACAs get amnesty for ...

The various immigration loopholes and nonsense get closed (no more chain migration and lottery garbage)
Deportation becomes easier.
Funding for the wall is secured.

I’m mixed right now. I want more details on those that can stay (if there is in fact some kind of delineation as to what constitutes “Dreamer” status).

I’m mixed on this as well. Ending chain migration is a must as some of the other things you mentioned.

If we accept any of these Dreamers they MUST earn it over time with proper assimilation. They have to completely understand our Constitution and the freedoms and liberties it protects. A big NO and deported if they don’t want to accept any of this and are for the welfare state.

Citizenship for these Dreamers have to be strictly earned if we were to concede some things for the wall, better border security and mostly ending chain migration. I’d prefer they go back and start over but what we’d gain in the wall, border security, no chain migration, would be far better for the future and stop the democrats/DC swamp in their tracks, from fundamentally changing America for the worst.

President Reagan must have trusted Daddy Bush to eventually get the wall done but what we know about open borders Daddy Bush now, that wasn’t going to happen. We need to make sure the wall, better border security, and chain migration gets done before anything else, even if we have to make a few short-term concessions for these Dreamers.

There are way more than 800,000 DACA individuals. More like 7-8 million.

i hope that’s how it turns out, and not how it worked for Reagan.

“They have to completely understand our Constitution and the freedoms and liberties it protects.”

That eliminates about 90% of the current citizen population.

Do you have any idea where most of the opiates are smuggled through? Right in our west coasts harbors via importation.

Yes, US Postal service, Fedex, etc. But none of those carriers bring in illegals. The expansive welfare state is one key you have identified. The other one a lot of people miss is the cultural attitude that it is ok to hire an illegal just for a quick project or do your lawn or something. That has to change. But we have an even broader culteral problem than illegals. Many people support main stream media and smut with their cable TV payments. That has to end too.

That eliminates about 90% of the current citizen population.

Unfortunately, there is a lot of truth to that and I have run in to a ton of them battling them online. That doesn't mean we can't make sure any of these Dreamers understand these things to try to keep them from becoming democrat voting puppets.

It wouldn't hurt for our population to learn these things as well. But that starts with a whole other topic of whether to keep government schools around or not, which I prefer not.

“You’re going to break that family up? Then what’s the master plan for the remaining children?”

What kind of “good” parent leaves their children behind? you are pointing out the hypocrisy in your argument without even knowing it.

the kids need to leave with them.

I agree. No way the Dems will agree to a wall and ending chain migration. Trump is playing with them....three steps ahead yet again.

I do think long term. I think America is doomed. The forces of evil are leading many people, not just Democrats, to socialism, debauchery, laziness, shallow thought, ignorance of the Constitution, and a million other problems and symptoms. Trump is slowing down the descent into third world status, or more precisely the type of society with an elite, workers like us, and an underclass, in our case spanish speaking illegals.

Trump on the other hand wants to MAGA using Americans and immigrants who adopt American values. He doesn't want Americans to be overrun with immigrants but he's accepting some in exchange for a wall, ending chain, etc.

Will that screw us over in elections? Yes, if he doesn't end chain migration. But that's why his offer says we have to end chain migration.

Until McConnell goes nuclear, we will have to give the democrats way more than we want to.

This is just for those who haven’t closely followed this issue:
So-called “Dreamers” must meet the following requirements:
They were younger than 18 years old on the date of their initial entry to the United States
Have proof of having arrived in the United States before age 16
Have proof of residence in the United States for at least four consecutive years since their date of arrival
If male, have registered with the Selective Service
Be between the ages of 12 and 35 at the time The Dream Act would become law.
Have graduated from an American high school, obtained a GED, or been admitted to an institution of higher education
Be of good moral character

For Conditional Resident Status, The individual must:
have proof that they entered the United States before the age of 16 and must have continuously lived in the country for at least 5 years
have graduated from a United States high school or obtained a GED in the US.
demonstrate good moral character
pass criminal background checks and reviews
After having obtained and held conditional resident status, permanent residency may be granted if the following requirements have been met in a period of six years.
For permanent residency, The individual must:
Have attended an institution of higher learning or served in the United States military for at least two years and if discharged, have received an honorable discharge
Pass another series of background checks
Continue to demonstrate good moral character
If these requirements are not fulfilled the conditional resident will lose their legal status and be subject to deportation.

There were many teens & young adults who entered the US just a few years ago during the Obama Admin. 2014-2015 my guess. They all need to go back to their country of origin.

“Democrats will yield on chain migration... temporarily until they have more leverage. If they win the Presidency in 2020, Bureaus will just look the other way. They are playing the long game and biding their time.”

Durbin just flat-out rejected Trump’s proposal, so I don’t think you need to worry. As to the long game - it took decades for the 1965 Immigration bill to finally work well for the Dems, so I don’t think they’re ready to reset the clock and have to wait another 20 years for results. They have a system that is working great for them (with or without the DACA brats) and they won’t let go of it, even for the DACA brats.
