U.S. federal workers worry about government shutdown

Thousands of federal workers faced uncertainty about the status of their jobs and paychecks after U.S. Senate leaders failed to reach an agreement to end a government shutdown before the work week begins on Monday.

“This is incredibly stressful,” said Jessica Klement, vice president at the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association, which represents more than 20,000 workers.

“Essential employees must report to work without knowing when they’ll be paid next,” she said. “Non-essential employees will be forced to stay home without pay, not knowing if back pay will be provided.”

Some employees may not have received notice of their status on Friday, she added, so they could be going into work on Monday morning only to be sent home again.

There is no official tally of how many would be off work this time. But local economies could suffer in communities where thousands of non-essential personnel are likely to be off work, from Norfolk, Virginia, and Fayetteville, North Carolina, to Lakewood, Washington, and Oceanside, California.

If it were policy that none be paid for work never performed, the shutdown would end in a few hours because of Democrat pressure on the Democrat senators.

Boo friggin’ hoo.

Have they ever come to work to find the doors locked and the company out of business?

Have they ever had a paycheck bounce?

Have they ever had a company just quit paying at all?

I have for 2 out of 3 of these.

Advice to all, plan ahead for your sources of income to be interrupted.

Right now I am weeping the dry tears of “don’t give a sh!t” - which looks and sounds a lot like laughter.

No truer words could be spoken. It has to hurt for anything to be done.

End SS and retirement payments and see what happens. Whooo boy!

The president ought to be on Twitter every single day to remind the American people the Dems shut down the government over illegal immigrants, and are willing to keep it shut over them!

Union workers, most voted for Hillary and are aligned with Schumer. What goes around comes around.

If you are a FED government employee,

and

if you are home this morning because your supervisor told you that you are unessential,

you might want to start updating your resume.

==

If these positions are deemed ‘unessential’ when the government shuts down, then why do they even exist when the government is open?

If the feds continue to pay out EBT, federal housing, free healthcare, SSI to illegals as they stop paying citizens they will show their hand. These shutdowns are meaningless as long as conservative voters feel the pain. Until they make their liberal base share the pain nothing will ever stop the shutdown theater. Close the border crossings, call in all entitlement leeches to bring proof of citizenship and stop ALL money flow to non citizens. Otherwise it’s just SSDD.

Nonessential U.S. federal workers worry about government shutdown

Just fixing the headline.

If they're "non-essential", why do they have a job?

Why, that sounds like the real world when layoff rumors are flying and cutbacks are needed. Govt workers are used to being protected like babies in a cradle.

Maybe it’s good for them to see what uncertainty is like.

“Essential employees must report to work without knowing when they’ll be paid next,”

This absolute BS. My wife had to work during the "shutdowns" and always got paid...eventually. She never lost a dime and she had a few days off to enjoy herself too. It was never a hardship.
