According to media reports, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) invited the 192 Democrat Members of the House of Representatives out to dinner at a fancy Italian restaurant in Washington, D.C. Saturday during the first day of the government shutdown.
Politico’s Jake Sherman was first to report on Pelosi’s dinner.

The Hill’s Scott Wong reported the menu, “On the menu at Pelosi’s dinner at Acqua al 2: cheeses and meats, pasta, lots of wine and for dessert … cheesecake with strawberry drizzle & tiramisu”

Acqua Al 2, located blocks from the Capitol, describes itself as “an authentic Italian restaurant located in the heart of the historic Eastern Market in Washington, DC.” The menu is not cheap and not the most expensive either for D.C., but dinner for two would put a hurt on a working couples’ budget with dinner entrees running from $18 to $39, not including drinks, appetizers and dessert.
Military families blasted Pelosi for living it up while soldiers are going without due to the shutdown.

“Strozzapreti al Pomodoro - $13 Fresh ricotta cheese and spinach balls hand-rolled and baked in our house-made tomato sauce and parmigiano” Oh, puleeze. Another $1 homemade dish.

“Insalata Mista $9 Mixed greens, radicchio, grape tomatoes and dried cherries, tossed with balsamic and olive oil” Honestly, had that same salad with romaine lettuce twice this last week for pennies and about 3 minutes to prepare. Mr. b loved it so much the first time, we had it again the next night.
“Controfiletto ai Funghi Porcini $32 Hand-carved New York strip steak sauteed and topped with porcini mushrooms” Ha, who knew I was all fancy. Actually splurged with a reduced to sell quick London broil from Walmart with some sautéed white mushrooms and the above salad a couple days ago for a quarter of the price for 4 servings. Ate in front of the tv so no linen table cloths to wash and starch.
I hope some illegal in the kitchen didn’t wash up after going to the bathroom and they all get a bad case of the “runs”.
The $18-$39 is for the entrees only. That’s not including drinks, appetizers and desserts or the tip. If you think Democrats did without drinks, you are nuts.
