Kelly calls some of Trump's campaign pledges on immigration, wall 'uninformed,'
The Washington Post ^ | January 17, 2018 | Ed O'Keefe

Posted on 01/17/2018 4:46:29 PM PST by Pinkbell

White House Chief of Staff John F. Kelly told Democratic lawmakers Wednesday that the United States will never construct a physical wall along the entire stretch of the U.S.-Mexico border and that some of President Trump’s campaign promises on immigration were “uninformed.”

The comments put Kelly at odds with Trump, who repeatedly said during his presidential campaign that he would build a border wall that Mexico would pay for, not U.S. taxpayers.

Kelly met with members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, House Minority Whip Steny H. Hoyer (D-Md.) and Rep. Judy Chu (D-Calif.), who chairs the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus, at the U.S. Capitol in his fourth formal face-to-face encounter with Hispanic lawmakers, who have been deeply critical of Trump’s position on immigration policy.

During the meeting, Kelly repeatedly said that Trump supports enacting permanent legal protections for young immigrant “dreamers” and that he has helped the president evolve on immigration policy. But the meeting ended with no resolution to what exactly the administration wants in exchange for authorizing permanent legal protections for the at least 690,000 people enrolled in the program, according to several attendees.

White House aides didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment.

As the meeting began, Kelly said he had asked to meet with the group at the urging of House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), who has been in frequent contact with Kelly over the last several months and told him that the group is critical to reaching a deal.

Hoyer told Kelly later that the views expressed by lawmakers in the room represent “the will of the Democratic Caucus” — a reminder that House Democrats overwhelmingly support protecting dreamers and strongly oppose Trump’s calls for stricter border protections.

I saw Kelly interviewed today. Of course what he said is being misrepresented. What he said is it’s his job to present the president with all arguments, and Trump will decide. If he learns something new he can change his mind. He gave the example of a concrete wall along the whole border. It’s not geographically possible. Some places it needs to be a fence. Some places are so remote and rugged that there is virtually no cross border activity. So he changed it to 700 miles, which he actually did during the campaign. The media spins that to “Trump is ignorant”.

Well, obviously Trump knew you couldn’t build a wall over a mountain or river, but I think Trump meant that promise about building the wall fully, though.

> We can build it, we need to build, we should build it. Sea to Sea. Complete. No gaps for any reason. <

Absolutely! And I don’t want to hear about an “electronic wall” or any of that nonsense. I want a Wall-of-China wall, the whole way.

There are those who say that Trump never promised that. But nope, I heard Trump promise me a wall, not just segments of a wall.

The part that won’t be blocked by a wall will be blocked by a fence.

It’s obvious Trump is going to do DACA. It’s also apparent Kelly helped change his mind. However, DACA is fine if there is a wall on every part necessary, end of chain migration, and end of lottery. The interesting part was Kelly saying they are going to keep the TPS people because that is new.

In what dream world would you thing you will get anything but promises for DACA amnesty? The democrats have no intention of giving president Trump anything. Trump should let the Democrats shut the government down. It will show once for all how empty the threat really is.

That’s dumb, though. Why do a fence when you can do a wall with better protection?

I'd be happy with a wall (or one hell of a barbed-wire fence) along the mountains, and parallel to the rivers.

Here's a picture of the fence on the Hungarian border, built to keep the Muslim "immigrants" out. Looks good to me. And the dog is a nice touch.

Rivers make good moats in front of 40 high walls. The Rio Grand is fetid creek in parts anyway.

The Democrats are looking to build a chain link fence like you’d have in your backyard - one that a child can climb over with ease.

Is this confirmed? This is disgusting. Basically he’s the President’s schedule runner. He has ZERO business injecting his damned policy opinions into the operations.

He is a glorified secretary. It’s only a recent development to even have one. If this is true, then fire this gatekeeping globlist putz.

But once again, is there a source for this -besides- the word of a democrat?

” don’t believe a word of it “ ... I agree, Kelly gave a fantastic interview on Fox... he sounds like the perfect chief of staff for Trump.
