Wisconsin Democrats on Tuesday flipped a state Senate seat in a GOP-leaning district, prompting excitement among local party official

Patty Schachtner (D) defeated state Rep. Adam Jarchow (R) in a special election to replace a senator who left for a job in Gov. Scott Walker's (R) administration, The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported.

Schachtner, the chief medical examiner in Wisconsin's St. Croix County, won in the state's 10th Senate district, which voted heavily for President Trump and Republican nominee Mitt Romney in the past two presidential elections.

Despite Schachtner's win, Democrats remain in the minority in the state senate, according to the Journal Sentinal.

Schachtner's victory in the western Wisconsin district drew attention from U.S. Rep. Ted Lieu, who suggested Tuesday night's result was a sign of things to come.

The Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee touted Schachtner's win as the 34th district to flip from Republican-held to Democrat-held since President Trump was inaugurated a year ago.

Perhaps a Wisconsin FReeper could shine some light on this election if they know any details of it. Obviously this is an odd time of year in the dead of winter, and obviously the left is very motivated to vote - that may have played a roll, but we can not overlook the fact that this is a reliably Republican seat in a district Trump won. I posted an article about them flipping a deep red Oklahoma district a few months back. They've flipped 34 districts. That's nothing to sneeze at. We need to keep this in mind.

I posted an article the other day I wrote regarding some who voted for Trump but said they regretted it after his sh*thole comments. Now obviously that was only a few voters, but things like that aren't good story lines for the Republicans obviously. I know multiple people came out and denied it, but that was later, and the media had gained full control of the narrative. I think the White House could have averted a great deal of controversy with a good statement that night or early the next morning.

While the controversies often seem to cost him about 5 points in the polls, good news tends to build his poll numbers. What if Trump did a road tour to force the media to cover the economy (suggested by Dana Perino as well)? What if he went to swing states and gave speeches promoting his tax bill and had business owners or workers who benefited from it speak? He could have Congressmen/women and Senators from those swing states/districts with him. The media won't show the positive otherwise. Force them to cover it.

Also, the Democrats are saying we can't secure our border unless we give citizenship or status to those here illegally. Trump could do a trip to the border, to swing districts/states and lay out his platform, present the crime statistics and cost of illegal immigration, present his policies, and ask why the Democrats won't secure the borders and protect Americans without amnesty.

Pastor Darrell Scott who worked on Trump's campaign has said that he has worked with Trump on putting together and urban revitalization plan and prison reform. If they get that into gear, that will be good too.

These are a few issues I think he could utilize to motivate voters. Right now, the left is motivating their people by painting Trump as a racist, Hitler, Russian, etc. They aren't running on policy. We have to have good candidates who run on policy. We want people who support the President fully, but perhaps there are districts we will have to settle for a moderate because that's all that can win. Someone who will vote with the President most of the time and confirm judges is better than nothing.

" ... a GEMS tabulator—for Global Election Management System—which is a personal computer installed with Diebold software that sits in a windowless room in the county’s election headquarters.
The tabulator is the brains of the system.
It monitors the voting machines, sorts out which machines have delivered data and which haven’t, and tallies the results.
As voting machines check in and their votes are included in the official count, each machine’s status turns green on the GEMS master panel.
A red light means the upload has failed.

At the end of Memphis’s election night in October 2015, there was no indication from the technician running Shelby County’s GEMS tabulator that any voting machine hadn’t checked in or that any votes had gone missing, according to election commission e-mails obtained by Bloomberg Businessweek.
Yet as county technicians followed up on the evidence from Smith’s poll-tape photo, they discovered more votes that never made it into the election night count, all from precincts with large concentrations of black voters. ... "

Diebold Election Systems changed its name in 2006 to Premier Election Solutions.

Since I live in Virginia, I was going to mention the same thing you just posted. Some of the seats we lost were not just all Northern Virginia seats. We lost traditionally secure GOP seats in other parts of the State.

I don't care what Bill Mitchell on twitter and other optimist think. 2018 is shaping up to be a slaughter for GOP. The left and MSM owns the narrative in the average person's head.

I would Love to be wrong, but after OK, VA and now WI local elections, I'm expecting the worst (and hope for the best).

I'll give AL election a pass. But in reality, if just 53% of the republican voters that voted in 2016 election turned out to vote, Moore would have won despite the DEM cheating.

I think you are right. Trump needs to go on the offensive starting this Spring promoting his Tax bill and the surging economy.

It’s not looking good. That’s reality, and that’s why it’s important to share the results of these elections in reliably red districts because if we are losing them, what about a purple district? The press has had success with their 95% negative news campaign. That’s reality. They control a substantial portion of the narrative, and many trust them.

What you say is interesting, because I speak all over AZ, FL, CA, since 2016 to hundreds, perhaps thousands of people. I frequently ask if any regrets their Trump vote.

Not one. Not a single one, ever. I ask if any know Ds/Cankles voters who now like Trump. Some, not tons, but some.

No. I think they are being blackmailed out because of the sex fund. I think the deal is, if they quietly leave, no one will out them.

This is phenomenally GOOD news. The #s are that from 2007 to 2017 about 145 sex fund settlements were made. I assume maybe 10-15 turnover since then, so figure 130 members remain.

Of that, so far 24 Rs have left citing various reasons, and only 7 Ds. That means that there are about 100 remaining names to come out, of which-—since a higher proportion of Rs have left already-—means that probably 70 of those remaining to come out are Ds. Of those, SEVERAL will be women!!

Same in the Senate. A recent doc showed only two harassment settlements, but many others couched in other language that could be harassment. If 20% of the House is involved, you can darn sure bet 20% of the Senate is named too. So again, at 50/50 makeup, minus Frankenberry, I figure at least nine more Ds and many Senate Rs (INCLUDING WOMEN) are still going to come out.

Ds may be holding off thinking they can win. But this will come out. Better for us these guys are out sooner & can be replaced. We are 5 for 5 in special House elections, with far worse candidates than those who left.

I don’t know about the WI guy. I know we’re losing very good names like Mandel in OH, Pawlenty (not my fave, but a good shot to take Frankenberry’s seat if he ran).

So there are things happening behind the scenes. It’s not about Trump per se. It’s ALWAYS about candidates.
