Avoid small college towns...usually more left that they first appear. Exception may be Oxford MS. Avoid blue states, invariably higher taxes. First check crime rates and concealed carry regulations . Best bets: Florida, Tennessee and Texas.
I find that’s true. I live near Princeton, NJ and they are insufferable. They try to outdo NYers in liberalism. In NYC, your pals will talk to you, in private, about how much they hate the homeless population, inner city crime and DeBlasio. Princetonians doing that? Nah. Big fishes in small ponds!
I would seriously consider moving back to Gainesville.

Great advice, and I speak from experience. Small colleges invariably degrade the quality of life in small towns. Leftists everywhere, hoods roaming the streets at all hours of the night, inevitable increase in crime, drunks, car wrecks, break-ins, assaults, trash in the streets, every scourge civilized folks are looking to avoid can be found in small college towns.
