I would prefer a place that has a conservative base. Every location on the lists of best places to move are leftist s***holes.
I am hoping for a place with four seasons, albeit, not as severe as the northeast. Elevations are fine, beauty is important, and so is the need of good, friendly people.
Any ideas?
There are some nice places, but they’re getting bought up.
Just don’t come to the Rocky Mtns. Horrible place.
Still not sure???
Bluebonnets and Indian Paintbrushes all along the roadsides in the spring.
Well stocked fishing lakes for a fun day or a weekend competition.
Whitetail deer, turkey, and quail hunting.
4-Wheeler mudding venues.
Local festivals and parades.
County stock shows and rodeos.
Various car clubs -— from antiques to special models.
I know it sounds too good to be true -— but it’s oh so real . . .
Just ask any Texan!!!
Wilburton oklahoma
Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Rural Missouri
great outdoor opportunities
great medical institutions ( Barnes, Mercy, WashU etc)
good economy/ low cost of living
low crime ( in rural areas)
no income tax on mil/ret mil income
GOP/conserve legislature- both houses and Gov
nice folks with normal exceptions
Low cost of real estate
Very amicable gun laws
4 seasons, all pretty mild ( summer can be hot/humid though)
Welcome to Arizona.
No earthquakes, hurricanes, tornadoes, phenomenally oppressive humidity, snowdrifts up to your eyeballs.
Every amenity on earth.
Substantially R state.
I currently live on the beautiful Eastern Shore of Maryland, but I am hoping to move to East Berlin, Pennsylvania when I retire in four (count ‘em...four...long) years. My family lives there and it is gorgeous, quaint, quiet and lovely. Not too far from Gettysburg.
The rest of the process is a piece of cake...Just list your "good" criteria and choose...Or buy a motor-home and travel...
Poland.
Far Upstate South Carolina, right up against the NC line. Beautiful, mountainous, fairly mild four season climate, conservative, not too expensive, red state. Greenville is a growning city that is not too far away for city conveniences but far enough that you’re not in it or even suburban to it. More like far exurbs. I’m thinking Oconee County myself, but there are others similarly situated.
Auburn-Opelika, Alabama!
I second the Missouri, Ks, Oklahoma, Arkansas. Housing and land is cheap. Look around the smaller towns and you’ll be shocked how cheap housing is. Highly recommend the Ozarks east of Springfield. We have 4 seasons.
Sure Colorado could be great but their housing is outrageous.
Haven’t heard anything from Minnesota!!!
Reno Carson City Nevada area, most likely be moving there in a few years
- No state income tax
- low property tax
- low sales tax
At least compared to the s*** hole I live in currently (Los Angeles area)
FYI This is my first post, just signed up for FR
Buy a nice size sailboat and go sailing.
Northwestern AR
I agree with a number of posters who like places within 100 miles or so of Chattanooga, TN.
At 74, I would say this, if I were 65 today and retiring I would not stay in Maine.
I would retire to either the junction of OK and AK on or around interstate 40 or the El Paso area of Texas/so NM.
But not Maine. The political and religious corruption of Maine gets more and more difficult every year.
But my hope is still that I will live long enough to see the public school system in Maine destroy itself by bankrupting to many taxpayers. I expect to happen within the next 8 years or so.
Chickensoup, choose carefully now, for as you get into your 70s and beyond it becomes more and more difficult and expensive to move.
Best of luck,
Bob
