Rand Paul: Trump isn't prejudiced against Haiti because he helped fund my medical mission trip there
Washington Examiner ^ | 1/14/2018 | Kyle Feldscher

Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul brushed off suggestions that President Trump holds a racial animus against Haitians because he once supported Paul’s trip to the Caribbean nation to do eye surgeries on poor Haitians.

Paul said on NBC’s “Meet The Press” Sunday that Trump donated money to a medical mission trip Paul took before he was president. Paul did about 200 surgeries on Haitians that allowed them to see while he was on the trip, and he said that’s evidence Trump isn’t prejudiced against the country.

“It is unfair to draw conclusions from a remark that I think wasn't constructive is the least we can say and I think it is unfair to all of a sudden, paint him, well, he's a racist, when I know for a fact he cares very deeply about the people in Haiti because he helped to finance a trip, we were able to give vision back for 200 people in Haiti,” Paul said.

Sen. Rand Paul had to do eye surgery on the Haitians after the Clintons robbed them blind.

Trump funds medical missions to Haiti.

The Clintons, through their foundation, steal millions that was intended to help Haitians in need.

Who are the real racists here?

Let's put the focus on the real news here.

“It is unfair to draw conclusions from a remark that I think wasn’t constructive...”

Hey, Rand, you’re ignoring the fact that Trump has repeatedly denied making the remark in the first place.

The very sensible Haitian-American Republican, Mia Love (Republican rep from Utah) has called for Trump to apologize for his vulgar word, and I agree. Trump should choose words like a president, not like Sarah Silverman.

That said, Rand Paul is right, too. This one slip into vulgarity was, at the same time, a truth breakthrough, which is to say, there are places where 90% of the populace is living in wretched, busted-down-outhouse conditions, but the simple fact that they are wretched doesn't mean they can all move here.

We can't employ them all. We can't re-house them all. We can't educate them all. Frankly, we're doing a **it-poor job educating our own.

Trump is not a racist, as RonPaul convincingly points out. But he ought to express his argument in such a way that he doesn't seem like an Andrew Dice Clay trying to push out the Overton Window on imbecilic language.

And Trump was never called racists by anyone until he ran against Clinton.

I wouldn’t approve of Trump using language like that in his State of the Union Address, or anywhere there are cameras and microphones, but this was a closed door meeting with a handful of people. So if he did say that, Durbin is just a snot-nosed little tattle tale. And if he didn’t, Durbin’s a liar. Either way, I don’t care if President Trump uses language like that in private, personally.

President Trump has done a lot of good things before after after getting elected, but that doesn’t fit the MSM’s narrative.

Yes, Senator, thank you. You must feel like you’re pushing a rope. Keep pushing sir, we’ll eventually get it knotted on the gallows. Save your breath, the MFM/d’rats will soon tire of this assault, moving on to the next. It takes time to bring down a Great Presidency, even with a quarter of the nation, the strong, mighty MFM, and the toxic fumes of swamp gasses.

FreeRepublic is really conflicted on Rand Paul.

Paul is one of Trump’s real supporters in Congress, never slurs or backbites Trump, like many RINOs do. But Paul will speak clearly when a policy does not meet his own limited-government/conservative/libertarian standards.

This upsets some people, and I find a lot of hate for Rand Paul in these pages.

IMHO, he’s one of the few principled, small-government, freedom politicians in existence.

Should he apologize even if he didn’t utter the word?

That’s uncalled for. He was in a private meeting and had every right to expect anything said would be keep within those walls. People talk like that, especially men when they are really angry, and he WAS really angry. They lied to him. They said they had a deal that he would sign in order to get the meeting. It was a lie.

He wasn’t on camera, he wasn’t speaking in public. It’s just words.

Rand Paul certainly did more for the Haitian people then the Clintons ever did-he is a truly good person. That said, I don’t really care what anyone says in private or public as long as it is an accurate assessment-and Pres Trump was certainly right on the mark-Haiti isn’t exactly a paradise-the people there turned it into a big, open sewer and garbage pit a long time ago.

Pres Trump showed more restraint than I would have-I don’t know anyone who doesn’t refer to 3d world s***holes as just that even in public-we have that much contempt for the corrupt governments that never let a penny reach those who need help-I’m all for not giving them another dime in aid, so they have to face their own problems and solve them-even if it means mounting a coup d’ etat...
