“The California governor revealed that he has a “hunch” legal proceedings could pave the way for cuts to public employees’ benefits.”

Public employee unions aren’t going to like this. Could get interesting.

Parkinson disease, Ronstadt retired in 2013. Unable to sing. A lefty according to Wikipedia, but did play South Africa in the early 80s, refused to boycott the country. Didn’t like the Iraq war and George Bush, etc...lives in Tucson these days.

There’s a Freeper who keeps banging the drum how California is the 8th biggest economy and could easily fund a trillion in bonds to pay their share of the national debt if they secede. Meanwhile in Reality Land, the state is broke.

“Democrats will find a way to blame the Republicans”

There aren’t any left. One Party State officially for two years, unofficially for many more than that.

California has the same situation as Greece, wherein public employees (State, Count, Municipal, School, College, Prison Guards, everything else) have enjoyed the redistribution of wealth to themselves from the taxpayers. I doubt the public will shed many tears, and tax themselves anew, if the flow goes the other way.

Linda Ronstadt suffers from Parkinson’s Disease, which forced her to end her singing career.

I’m glad that I have structured my life so that I never need to depend on payment from the government or an employer for my livelihood.

Most of those retired CA workers will be very understanding, since the money was really the government's money. That's the way if works with a communist economy, so, they'll be very happy to do their part to help out.

The pensions should be tiered. I’m 71 and can’t work as much due to heart attack and other illnesses. My heart attack was deemed to be job related.

There are retired employees drawing low pay who have been retired for 30 years under a lower formula and lower pension.

Then there are retired under Gay Davis big bump for cops and fire fighters which bounced the fund.

To do the same for all retirees will have serious disparate impact.

Lastly, there is no roll back or change with current employees. This needs to happen no matter what is done with retirees. Gov Brown mentions the next governor because he sat on his ass for years.

BTW Cali pays 21 billion a year in services to illegals.

If you look at Selena Gomez, it’s uncanny how much she looks like young Linda.

Thankfully, California isn’t part of the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation, or they would bankrupt it. They will probably use similar guidelines though, chopping all pensions that exceed a certain level. I think PBGC only pays up to $60K or so.

PBGC is a joke. It is hugely bankrupt.

Not sure what you’re saying there; how long can you ask young people to pay pensions to people who retired decades before they were even born? Our state is falling apart because more and more current revenues go to people who haven’t lifted a finger in decades. Today’s taxpayers don’t pay taxes to improve roads; they pay taxes for the guys who used to improve roads until they retired in 1990.

I don't think my post deserved that response. I'm sorry if your career choices have left you in a vulnerable financial position.
