Democrats on Oprah 2020: It's not crazy and she could win, but ...

Washington (CNN) — The day after Oprah Winfrey delivered a speech that thrust her into the conversation about the 2020 presidential race, Democratic strategists and activists largely agree: It's not crazy. And she could win.

First, though, Winfrey would have to answer huge questions. Among them: Where does she stand on the issues? Is she willing to sacrifice her personal popularity and face scrutiny over how her business empire has operated?

The television star and self-made billionaire addressed the "#MeToo" moment and promised that "a new day is on the horizon" during a Golden Globes award acceptance speech Sunday night. The speech struck a chord, drawing comparisons to then-Illinois state senator Barack Obama's 2004 Democratic National Convention speech, which launched him toward the presidency four years later.

Sunday night, when her longtime partner, Stedman Graham, was asked by a Los Angeles Times reporter about Winfrey running in 2020, he said she "would absolutely do it." On Monday, two Winfrey friends told CNN she is "actively thinking" about a run for president. (snip)

Several Democratic strategists argued that Winfrey is one of the few people on Earth who could pull the focus of national media away from Trump in the heat of a presidential campaign -- or "out-Trump Trump," as one put it. Others cast Winfrey as an antidote of sorts to Trump's brand of politics.

"I slept on it and came to the conclusion that the Oprah thing isn't that crazy," tweeted Dan Pfeiffer, a longtime top aide to former President Barack Obama. "I don't know if Oprah would be a good president, but she would definitely be a better president than Trump."

"Oprah is really everything that Trump pretends to be -- successful, self-made, generous, charitable, beloved and the list goes on," said Democratic strategist Jesse Ferguson.

Oprah has no political skills, and lots’o’baggage (like Hillary).

The fact that the Democrats are salivating over a mere few minutes of her speaking says, loud and clear, that the Democrats are totally unsatisfied with their current “leaders”.

IOW, get lost Kamala Harris, Lizzie Warren, Joe Biden, ....

Oprah will not run I believe. If she did her campaign would only be as good as who she surrounds herself with. She would have to start explaining who she would nominate because of her utter lack of political experience. Not only that but I hear she has a pretty fair amount of skeletons in her closets.

But I’m wondering ... is the demise of America going to be at the hands of an inexperienced entertainer? Nero was a fiddler you know.

Oprah is loving the attention right now. That’s all she wants. I don’t think she could live with rejection. She won’t run.

I think its great. George Clooney in the wings and they call on the fat black racist. If Hillary had picked Clooney instead of the corpse, Tim Cane, we’d be watching millions of muslim murderers check in at JFK.

She’ll be in constant contact with Obama, so we’ll be right back where we started. And I’m sure she’ll publish 20 years of tax returns on the front page of the NY Times

Yes, among other things, about some of her close associations.

She won’t win. 20 years ago, Noprah started her racist rants. SHe had a large white following. After she started on that, she lost half her audience and her show quickly collapsed.

Next, she formed Own and that was a complete failure. Nobody wanted to cough up money for a subscription after she went on her anti-white, racist nonsense.

NOprah will never be president. All of those former racist monologues will ensure her defeat. She lost when she played the victim card. Now we have her 2 African girls schools with sexual assault charges against them.

She is no angel. Just her pimping young starlets to Weinstein, will defeat her. Too many pics out there with her partying with Weinstein and Soros. She’s finished.

She does not plan to run. This is only to rally democrats who feel demoralized over Trump.

Obviously it’s about: Black. Female. Ultra-liberal.

Oprah, were you procuring young girls for sexual predators who were your friends at the time?

Will you still do that as President?

You know, I'd like to say to that: "yes it is (crazy), and no she couldn't (win)." But then I think back that bammy actually got elected a second time and I don't know... I mean, I get it. The first time I'm sure a lot of self-loathing guilt-ridden liberals voted for him just 'cause he was a black guy with a muslim name. They wanted to prove to themselves and others they were "enlightened" and not prejudiced etc. etc. I think that fairly well explains term 1. But after his dismal, America-hating, scandal-riddled, performance how the {expletive} did he get a second term? The American electorate can be fooled, cheated, and may be mildly insane at times. Only explanation. So yeah, even someone as repulsive, unqualified, and downright ignorant as Oprah could probably win with the right message. Maybe. If enough people get a taste of the good life, of America running at full throttle under President Trump... Maybe, just maybe some of the blinders will come off.

Dang. Was hoping to see her run so that I could witness the “big bully meanie racist” Trump make her cry. She’s too thin skinned for that and she’d also likely balloon up. She’s a person who needs validation, even today. The Obama days of winning on platitudes are over when up against a giant like Trump.
