Hundreds of new protective barriers will be permanently installed in Times Square and other locations around New York in an effort to block vehicles from hitting pedestrians after deadly attacks last year on crowds. The city is spending $50 million on protective measures including the installation of 1,500 metal barriers, or bollards, in key locations around the city, Mayor Bill de Blasio said Tuesday.

1500 barriers is for nothing but show. (Let's see. Forget the avenues and lower Manhattan, the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, and Staten Island. Assume only 100 cross streets two miles long. That's 100x5280x2, or about one million feet of streets, each with two sides so two million feet of sidewalk. (Don't forget that I'm leaving out most of the city!)
2,000,000 / 1500 = 1333; so one barrier for every 1300 feet of sidewalk.

Just checked. Estimates I got for 30” high, 12” diameter concrete bollards ran about $500 to a grand installed, per bollard.
Someone should send this article to Trump. 50 grand per bollard for what???
Metal was twice to three times that per bollard. Was this project put out to bid?
