US preparing ‘bloody nose’ attack on North Korea
The New York Post ^ | December 21st 2017 | By Yaron Steinbuch

The US is preparing plans to deliver a “bloody nose” attack against North Korea to knock out its nuclear weapons program.

The White House has “dramatically” ramped up its military plans amid fears that diplomacy won’t thwart North Korean despot Kim Jong Un from making good on his threats, sources told the UK’s Telegraph.

One option is destroying a launch site before the rogue regime uses it for a new missile test, while another is targeting weapons stockpiles, according to the news outlet.

The Trump administration hopes that pre-emptive action would show the trigger-happy dictator that the United States is serious about stopping his bellicose pursuits and persuading him to negotiate.

The Telegraph cited three anonymous sources, one inside the administration and two former officials familiar with the White House thinking.

“The Pentagon is trying to find options that would allow them to punch the North Koreans in the nose, get their attention and show that we’re serious,” a former US security official briefed on policy told the Telegraph.

President Trump’s decision to launch 59 cruise missiles against a Syrian airfield in response to the country’s chemical weapons attack that killed more than 80 civilians is considered an indication of his resolve, the paper reported.

It's always impossible to fully understand and predict what may happen in such circumstances.

That said, you make a very good point. Such a strategy would save face for both the Norks and Chinese, such being vital to their way of thinking.

Some conventional Nork assets would still have to be removed, that is, those pointed at Seoul with standing orders to attack at any breakout of hostilities. Figuring out what those would be is likely problematic, so we will inevitably miss some, meaning Seoul is going to take some damage, no matter what we do.

War is like that, unfortunately...

They’re not broadcasting anything! Anyone on this planet knows we’re likely to pop Kim! Stating so is not broadcasting sensitive Intel! Saying we’re gonna hit them on X date at X time, with X amount of aircraft, and detailed information on Black ops insertion sites, all that is what we don’t wanna know about in the civilian sector. THAT is what we shouldn’t hear. Any idiot knows we’re about to “bloody their nose.”

“The way to deal with a petulant child is to put them in time out. Ignore them. Don’t engage them, or their friends. Stop trade with China and Russia. Suck it up for a few months.”

Like that’s worked so well for all the intervening years since 1950! Trump has been dealt a terrible hand, thanks to every effing one of our presidents since WWII, coupled with all the Congresses in that time period as well. Unfortunately, I doubt very much that trade sanctions like you propose are either doable or effective.

“Killing a few million people in Seoul is not the action of a sane person.”

I don’t think for a moment we would do anything to precipitate that, but I am also not willing tp put millions of people in this country at risk of death either.

“Even if this strategy is an abysmal failure resulting in general war in Northeast Asia, it’s better to get on with it now rather than 1, 2 or five years from now.”

Or after Un has actually launched a nuke-tipped missile at us, Japan, or even SK.
China knows that “the $hit is on,” otherwise why would they be making border preparations with their border with NK?

I thought it was Lavrentiy Beria who later bragged that he had poisoned Stalin behind closed doors. The truth will most likely never be known.

It’s not just the nukes.

The pot bellied dictator is looking to mount anthrax filled warheads to his missiles too.

“Looks like full blown neocon madness is back.”

Ludicrous.

Norklandia has developed nukes and threatened to use them against the US. Not just as a result of a US assault, but “because”.

They are a direct and immediate existential threat to the US and allies in the region.

This would be a legitimate act of pre-emptive self defense...even for a Paleoconservative such as myself.

If you think this is a Neocon-driven crisis you are sorely in need of reeducation.

The NORKS are a long way from getting much BACK from space. When they domonstrate that I am for “protecting” our people.

There are a lot of arm chair generals on this forum who are bloodthirsty. That is not a good mindset from which to wage war.

“The NORKS are a long way from getting much BACK from space. When they domonstrate that I am for “protecting” our people.”

But with every test, they get closer to a completely reliable weapon, and there will be a time not far off where they will be able to successfully attack another country with an ICBM. I just don’t think waiting until we are at that point makes any sense at all. The can has been kicked dangerously close to the edge of the curb.

“There are a lot of arm chair generals on this forum who are bloodthirsty. That is not a good mindset from which to wage war.”

If by armchair generals you mean ordinary people who are concerned about being able to continue to live and breathe, they are not bloodthirsty, just self-interested in survival. Actually, the time to have waged the war was in 1950, but with WWII still in the rear view mirror, our leaders decided we’d had enough conflict to last us for awhile. Unfortunately hindsight is always 20/20, but in the intervening 60 years, there have been many, many times when this issue should have been addressed and it was not. Can Kicking 101 has been alive here for far too long. Now, our options are very narrow.

It will be 11:32 pm Pyongyang time on December 26.

But we can't tell you what day of the week that is. That's classified.

How do you prevent South Korea from being flattened. What about Japan? How are we going to protect them from dozens of missiles launched from mobile launchers?

My Armchair general comment has to do with planning four or five steps from the original action.

When someone can give a decent response, other than, “Kim would not do that”, I will start listening seriously to this madness.

Hie reentry vehicles burn up. The anthrax spores would be dead before the air burst could happen.
