Left Eats Left: Progressives Go After One of Few Remaining Moderate Democrats

Democrats are trying to take out their own in the race for Illinois’ 3rd Congressional District…all because he’s not progressive enough by the party’s standards.

According to a report in Politico, Lipinski is up for one of the toughest political fights of his life against the much more leftist candidate Marie Newman, a former marketing consultant and businesswoman, who’s nabbed endorsements from Democratic Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, Gloria Steinem, Democracy for America, MoveOn.org, NARAL, Human Rights Campaign, and Progressive Campaign Committee.

“Dan Lipinski has a real, formidable challenger like he’s never had before. The environment is different. ... The energy is palpable,” said Sasha Bruce, vice president for campaigns and strategies with NARAL, reports Politico. “This is a staunchly progressive values-Democratic district.”

So what is it about Lipinski that has progressives lined up to oppose him?

First elected in 2004, Lipinski is something of an exotic species: a Democrat who opposes abortion and has cast votes against both the Affordable Care Act and the DREAM Act, which sought to provide a pathway to citizenship for young undocumented immigrants.

He was the only Democrat to co-sponsor the First Amendment Defense Act, which protects those who refuse services to same sex couples, and the only Illinois Democrat to support drug testing those seeking unemployment benefits — a move that has at least some union leaders considering opposing his reelection.

According to one analysis, Lipinski has voted in line with Trump’s positions 34.5 percent of the time — a legislative record that is begging for a primary challenge in a highly polarized era.

Some of those votes have left a bitter aftertaste in his solidly Democratic district, which includes Latino working class neighborhoods in Chicago — the district is roughly one-third Latino — and suburbs south of the city. Until recently, Lipinski was the only Illinois Democrat not to commit to supporting the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program. (Politico)

Not surprisingly, Lipinski, who supported Sen. Bernie Sanders in the 2016 election, said he should not be characterized as a conservative.

“There are people who just want me to follow in line and vote however the party says … We have gotten to a point where everything is black and white. You are either for something in theory or against something in theory, when a lot of these things come down to: What are the details? Let's try and get the policy right,” he said, reports Politico. “I think my constituents see that is how I've always been. ... I think that's a real hunger that a lot of Americans have. I'm not just going to be an automaton.”

Instead, he cast himself as a moderate voice, which he wished there were more of on Capitol Hill.

“There are Democrats who are a lot more conservative than I am on issues. I wish there were more moderate Democrats,” Lipinski told POLITICO. “I'm pro-life. I make no bones about that. Always have been. I think this painting me as somebody who is really conservative — I have a strong environmental record,” in addition to his support for seniors, Medicare and Social Security, he told Politico.

That strategy may work well in a few districts that are already lost causes to the GOP but nationally the further to the Left these people go the smaller their chance of winning a major election. Good news for Conservatives.

Say, how about Doug Jones? He’s not much of a progressive, maybe the Dems would like to kick him out of the party.

Sen Manchin of WVA doesn’t strike me as much of a Prog either...Yet he remains Dem and apparently will vote against Trump tax plan.

Progressives talk a lot about "diversity" and "freedom of choice." By the term "diversity," Progressives mean "diversity" of anything and everything except freedom of conscience, freedom of expression of ideas which differ from the "Progressive" agenda for "changing" America from adherence and devotion to the ideas of liberty outlined in its Declaration of Independence and structured into its Constitution for self-government. As far as "choice" is concerned their demand for "choice" rights do not apply to poor minorities who would like to "choice" of a good school over a Progressive-dominated government school.

Shame on them and all whom they control through fear!

The things we are witnessing are the consequences of decades of Progressive academic and government "elitists'" indoctrination of America away from its founding principles in the ideas of liberty and toward the cultish and oppressive ideology of Progressivism, an ideology which demands complete submission to "progressive" regressives who believe they are entitled, and were appointed, to rule over everyone else. A society where Progressives rule is a society where the ideas of liberty have been subordinated to the ideas of tyranny.

Thomas Jefferson, only days before his death on July 4, 1826, explaining his inability to attend a gathering to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Declaration, wrote to Roger Weightman:

"I should, indeed, with peculiar delight, have met and exchanged there congratulations personally with the small band, the remnant of that host of worthies, who joined with us on that day, in the bold and doubtful election we were to make for our country, between submission or the sword; and to have enjoyed with them the consolatory fact, that our fellow citizens, after half a century of experience and prosperity, continue to approve the choice we made. may it be to the world, what I believe it will be, (to some parts sooner, to others later, but finally to all) the Signal of arousing men to burst the chains, under which monkish ignorance and superstition had persuaded them to bind themselves, and to assume the blessings & security of self-government. That form which we have substituted, restores the free right to the unbounded exercise of reason and freedom of opinion. All eyes are opened, or opening, to the rights of man. the general spread of the light of science has already laid open to every view. the palpable truth, that the mass of mankind has not been born with saddles on their backs, nor a favored few booted and spurred, ready to ride them legitimately, by the grace of god. These are grounds of hope for others. for ourselves, let the annual return of this day forever refresh our recollections of these rights, and an undiminished devotion to them." (Jefferson, June 24, 1826, to Roger Weightman, End of Jefferson quotation)

Sadly, the cultish Progressives who practice groupthink and strict adherence to the tenets of Progressivism have darkened the schoolrooms of America with their lack of love for liberty and light, and their insistence upon erasing the ideas of liberty.

His dad, Bill Lipinski, previously held the same seat, and was cut from much the same mold - pro-life, member of the “Blue Dog” democrat coalition back when it existed. Their district is southwest side Chicago and some adjoining suburbs - mostly white, mostly blue-collar, but getting more minority populated as the city changes. Over time he’ll find it tougher and tougher to hold his seat.

Like the rest of the donkey party, he supports a good bit of insanity, but he’s one of the few Illinois Democrats I still have any respect for - maybe even the only one.

Who told you the supporter of baby killing, Doug Jones, is not a progressive? On every vote that matters, he will vote with Chuck Schumer. Bank on it.

But wait a minute.

How many times have Republicans been told they must moderate their evil right-wing conservatism if they want to win?

So here you have a Democrat - in IL no less - reaching across the aisle and working with Republicans and he's preparing to get run out of dodge.

Where are the angry NY Times editorials railing about hyper-partisan politics?

Manchin wants to be the next Bill Clinton minus the zipper problem and harpy wife. He is convinced that after the public tires of the polarization of the radical right (Represented by the “moderate GOP’er” Donald Trump!) and the radical left (Represented by Hellary Harpy & Zero!) the public will yearn for a pragmatic moderate to come in and pick up the pieces. That’s were he steps in and saves the day! (Now hum or sing the Underdog theme song!)

I got news for him, its not 1992 and he does not have the political skill of a Slick Willy. He thinks he does though and that “1992 triangulation” will make another Rat moderate from a border state president.

I don’t think so!

I come from that district which has never been staunchly progressive and had even elected Republican alderman and state Representatives as well as carried Reagan. I once ran against his father who began as a Republican. Most of the “latinos”are in the old district in Chicago neighborhoods which were given to Gutierez.Ted had been fairly conservative its been only a matter of time and redistricting when the perverts come to take him out.

The left needn’t worry. When they pull further left the RINO heard always moves left too. Today’s Republicans are the Democrats of the 1950’s and 60’s.
