I very much lean to the idea that Turkey will be a major player in the attempted annihilation of Israel. Regarding Tarsus, a large rebellion occurred there against Antiochus IV Ephiphanes. A new king will arise from the geographical region of western asia, who like Antiochus will claim to be Ephiphanes ie god in the flesh. aka the Antichrist.
