Stolen valor alert. There are probably millions of vets who pad their resumes when it comes to what they did in the military ("I mopped the Admiral's hallway" just doesn't have the same ring as "I was a member of the Admiral's inner circle) but lying for gain is beyond the pale.

He actually served in the Army eight years. Though he didn’t see combat, that is nothing to sneeze at. If he had been just as involved and had that eight years, he still would have enjoyed a great reputation.

We’ve had a couple of posers here on FR as well.

Some claiming all sorts of things.
But somehow they always seem to trip up on the details.

A friend of mine told me that he had spent 4 years in the Army stationed in Germany. When I asked about his military experiences he told me he been assigned to the Remington Raiders! “Wow” I thought!!! He then explained that he did a hell of a lot of high pressure typing in the payroll office!

I tried to enlist in the Marines two days after NK captured our ship. I was 4Fb flat feet and high BP. I met a retired Colonel years later and he said he considered me a Marine. I never told anyone I severed, but I’m proud I tried.

LOL...back in the 90s when I was the Provost Marshal Operations Officer in Yongsan, there was a pretty clear policy for requesting and obtaining post access for non-USFK personnel and vehicles. It was not uncommon as when a GI married a Korean on-post they would want the Korean brides family to attend, or Senior officers would want to host a Christmas party and invite members of the Korean community. If people complied with the USFK reg and got us the list of people and vehicles in advance we could run checks with the Korean National Police and had very little problem. What frequently happened is somebody would come in on a Friday afternoon wanting to gain access for that weekend. When told that it wasn't going to happen they wanted an exception to policy and I would hear, "I work for General Tilelli!" I would look at the chain of command pics on the wall and say, "I work for President Clinton!" (Gen. Tilelli's office would on occasion request last minute access, but his people would always send down an exception to policy letter when doing so...he was the USFK commander, it was his regulation I was being paid to enforce, and if he wanted to waive it so be it.)

Very sad. A humble career but a modern, mechanized Army will always need drivers. If he had simply been honest about his time and service and still organized charity events for vets as a civilian, his reputation among them and in other organizations would probably be stellar.

Bharf! Dude is a real live, honorably discharged veteran, something to stand up and be proud of. But no, that's not good enough.

1) He threw it all away by claiming to be a whole bunch of things he's not. So now, he's just a POS.

2) He pissed on the honorable service of a whole lot of other veterans; he apparently thinks their service just wasn't "good enough".

I will start by saying that I did not serve but have nothing but the highest respect for those that did and do.

My favorite youtube Stolen Valor video is where a fake Master Sargeant is confronted in a parking lot by two guys who know their stuff. The makes a break to get in his car and leave. Last line from the two guys was, "If you were a real Master Sargeant, you'd stand here and kick our ass."

Love it.

This is an odd phenomenon. I’ve nailed a few idiots in my time. I served 24 years in the army. Sometimes people heap so much praise on you it cab be embarrassing. I guess people get addicted to that “hero worship”. I did some hairy stuff, flew plenty of combat missions as a UH-60 pilot, but it was nothing compared to other people, especially my buddies who are Rangers, SF, and SEALs.

My own grandfather was a war hero. Flew a B-24 Liberator in the Pacific theater. He was shot down twice, was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for his efforts to save most of his crew. He survives all that, comes home from the war and dies from a heart attack while shoveling snow. He was only 41. My mother was 13, the oldest of 6 kids. I think about what he went through and it keeps me humble.
