US: Our presence in Syria will continue
ANF News (Washington, DC) ^ | Wednesday, 13 Dec 2017, 09:15 | ANF WASHINGTON

US State Department Spokesperson Heather Nauert said, “We will continue to work through all our partners to try to stabilize the country.”

Spokesperson Nauert commented on Russian President Vladimir Putin’s announcement that Russian soldiers will be pulled out of Syria and said, “If Russia chooses to pull out, certainly, that is its choice to do so, but we continue to work through all our partners to try to stabilize the country.”

US State Department Spokesperson Heather Nauert answered questions about Syria in the daily press briefing.

Nauert said the following on the question about Russian President Putin’s announcement that Russian soldiers will be pulled out of Syria:

“Russia may consider its job in Syria to be done. Our job in Syria is not done. And when I say “our,” I don’t just mean the United States, I mean the entire coalition. There are still pockets of ISIS. The country still needs to be stabilized. (…) If Russia chooses to pull out, certainly, that is its choice to do so, but we continue to work through all our partners to try to stabilize the country.”

Nauert stated that the US remains committed to the Geneva process on Syria and said, “We believe that the future of Syria will not include Bashar al-Assad, but that is ultimately up to the Syrian people and the Syrian voters to decide.”

She is under pressure for sure.

And Press Secretary Sarah Sanders is under pressure too. But she seems well suited to handling it. She is doing an amazing job.

Trump does have some good staff. (still some subversive holdovers and traitors lingering in the shadows)

2 issues.

1. this is from CNN (they never get it right)

2. It is correct that Russia is planning to reduce their presence in Syria. They have stated they do not wish to conflict with the US and that they can work with the US.

Now the problem. Iran.

Some in the thread you referenced stated it:

It also serves to protect Russian soldiers from whatever Iran has in mind to do next..

I think Iran plans to directly attack the US. If they do we will respond directly. Putin knows Iran’s mindset and they have had recent joint meetings. Putin does not want his soldiers involved in that. He will not take sides on it.

Note: to Iranians al-Quds = (Jerusalem)

General Qassem Suleimani is the Iranian Quds Commander

In my opinion, he considers his duty to be to destroy Israel. The Iranian Mullahs have never wavered from that aim. They are brutal arrogant evil people.

“It seems more likely that is why battle hardened pro-Assad troops are gathering in the area.”

No not really. The Syria ‘rebel’ groups are more pro-Iran than pro-Assad, who, in any case, is a client of Iran. The majority of the other troops are Iranian al-Qods, and Hezbollah. Those groups you mention pose no threat to Israel as currently constituted. Israel would rather have them holding territory than Syrian SSA or Iranian troops, which together with their Russian Intel and air assets pose a historical existential threat. Suleimani does not care about the relatively small contingents of Sunni forces which are ill-coordinated, if at all, and without financial support from KSA.

Before invading Israel, the primary Iranian objective is establishing a route to the Med for Iran - a long held Iranian dream and, I believe, a direct order from the mullahs to Suleimani. Taking the Golan or at least neutralizing any Israel threat to that objective far outweighs any such concern about the few Sunni forces in the area - and which are being rapidly destroyed.

The route from Iran to the Med has only one potential threat and bottleneck: the Israeli held Golan. They are in the process of transferring 15,000 Asaib Ahl al-Haq troops to Lebanon to take up positions along the Lebanon-Israeli border from Metullah to Admit.

Not sure it will ever be clear to everyone which side we are on, until THE END.

That may be nearer than we think.

But not for man to know.

Terrorist control of the Golan border creates a conduit for anti-Assadl forces and threatens Damascus...its Syria that faces an existential threat not Israel.

The Shia Crescent you folks obsess about runs through Lebanon...your thesis about Golan being a bottleneck doesn't stand up to scrutiny.

ISIS is a sworn enemy of the civilized world and there is no moral excuse for allowing ISIS sanctuary on Israel's border.

Either Israel learns to live within its own borders or it will face an existential threat in the future, its your choice.

“... its your choice.”

My choice? Seems to me it would be Israel’s choice ... and of course that would be the pre-67 borders for Israel. The terrorist you mention are apparently the IDF.

It is well know that Syria, Iran, the Palestinians controlling Lebanon, and Hamas would never imagine hurting poor Israel; it a real love-fest. /s

I’m not ‘obsessing’. That’s an illusion in your head and a personal slight. Sorry for not complying with what seems to be your limited pan-Islamic point of view; if that’s not the case, I apologize.

“Withdrawing them means Iran has a green light to invade Israel”

You overestimate Iran’s capability, not their intent.

Their intent is to hit Israel with as many missiles as possible from Iran while Hezbollah does the same form the north and Hamas from the south - iron dome and the other systems will be overwhelmed. Any army that would sent kids on motor bikes to clear mine fields cannot be overestimated either by intent or capability. We’ll see as time goes on.

this is from CNN (they never get it right)

Can you describe what is wrong in that article, except that they stated that Russia would withdraw from Syria?

If you prefer a Russian article from RIA that says the same thing read this from 14MAR2016:

Sorry. I remember replying, but it appears I replied to the wrong thread, but have not been able to find it yet.

I should never post 2 threads in a short time. Problem is, it seems to me that worthwhile news comes in spurts. Maybe it’s just me.
