In December 2016, Michael Flynn was three weeks from becoming the national-security adviser to the next president of the United States.
This is a pertinent fact in evaluating the conduct underlying his plea deal with Robert Mueller. Flynn admitted to lying to FBI agents about his contacts with Russia and other foreign governments during the transition. He’s paying a steep price for his dishonesty, but from what we know so far, it’s not clear what’s supposed to be the larger scandal.
In these conversations, Flynn didn’t “collude” with the Russians about hacked e-mails. He informed them of Donald Trump’s posture on a policy question. Flynn went beyond the anodyne foreign contacts typical of a transition. This may be inappropriate, but it isn’t a scandal or — as the more outlandish anti-Trumpists argue — a violation of federal law.
Flynn’s most controversial act came after the Obama administration announced Russia sanctions on Dec. 29. At that point, President Barack Obama had exactly 22 days left in office. This isn’t usually the juncture at which administrations launch new foreign-policy ventures, for the obvious reason that they aren’t going to constitute the government of the United States much longer.

Flynn’s intervention on behalf of Supervisory Special Agent Robyn Gritz against McCabe 3 years ago is what probably got him in F.B.I.’s crosshairs. McCabe knows how to hold a grudge.
McCabe needs to be in prison, along with a bunch near the top.
McCabe’s wife gets big time moola from Clinton backer and Democrat loyalist Terry McCauliffe. Meanwhile he’s assisted by aide, Lisa Paige, who is carrying on a hate-Trump correspondence with her extra-marital love, Peter Strzok.
McCabe is #2 in the FBI and Strzok is Deputy Chief of counter-intelligence there!!!!!!!!!!
I am only thankful to him for beating out the skunklady of Arkansas, Hillary Clinton, in her first bite at the presidential apple.
Well, it really was the Democrat party that put Obama over the top, whereas Hillary! became furious that her special sauce was burnt. And she never really came out from under that shadow.

I believe numerous AG’s of past administrations, would have found it critically necessary to intervene well before now in the “death grip” scenario we are now facing!
Barring something being kept quiet, IF Sessions is not actually doing anything yet, SESSIONS himself is directly responsible for the absolute destruction of our AG’s office as well as, the FBI!
What we are witnessing is the weaponization and criminalization of the very federal agency in place, to protect the electorate from subjugation and tyranny of entrenched government, as well as powerful and murderous thugs operating outside or above the law!
We are in real danger here...
And the plea deal had nothing to do with what they were holding over his head. His lobbying/consulting business was what really exposed him, and his son. Those activities should have disqualified him from the Advisor job in the first place.

They were no different than what Tony Posdesta and a lot of other people in DC were doing. It was quite normal. But the law is only being enforced against Trump’s people and not on others, which effectively means there’s no law but power.
Only republicans get prosecuted. Ask Scooter Libby.

Like the rest of the swamp creatures, Lowry is dead wrong on this one. It is always good to be skeptical of a news report - ANY news report.
I have a friend who was seriously injured in an ultralight airplane crash. He missed work for several months. When he returned, I showed him a newspaper clip of his crash, but it didn't include his name. He read it, then turned to me and said: "You know I was injured in an ultralight crash, too." That's right, the story was so botched that he read a newspaper report of his own crash, and didn't even recognize that the story was about him.
There is little reason for me to believe the crash story was intentionally mis-reported. It just illustrates the (in)competency of reporters.
Great article. Republicans should have been making this argument from the get-go, rather than running for cover every time a Russia contact was revealed. Or merely responding, “The Democrats did it too.”
