Myself white, male, and affluent/privileged in many ways grounded in those first two accidents of my birth—I am deeply burdened by the question that lies before us about the essential nature of men, of whiteness: Can these revelations about how many powerful men are monsters be traced to predispositions of being born a male, to some code engrained in whiteness (even as we know race is a social, not a biological, construct)?
I am afraid of the truth about being male, about the flawed consequences of being a creature driven by testosterone even with the capacity for reason, compassion, and ethical awareness.
I am terrified about the inability to determine cause and effect among the dynamics of being male, white, and powerful—that white men have disproportionate power may allow being white and male to be absolved, may allow us all to decry the corrosive impact of power.

Of course it is genetic. We white people of Northern European descent are the product of the loins, several generations removed, or the most vicious, rapacious, bloodthirsty, and basically cruel pirates, raiders and slaveowners the world has ever known, and on occasion, there are a few born every generation that revert to type.
Has nobody here been watching “The Vikings” on History Channel? And it is not only the white men who are exhibiting all this uninhibited anti-social behavior, many of the women share similar tastes and impulses.

I have decided that for many people today, life is way too easy. In this country, there is no struggle involved in getting the basics. I am talking about real struggle, not perceived struggle. So they have time to think up this non sense instead of putting their hands and minds to productive works. It ticks me off that my white son and others of all colors are standing in danger in miserable circumstances to allow this piece of offal to pontificate.
Sounds like the author of this load of confused hand-wringing needs to go castrate himself, if for no other reason than for the improvement of the gene pool and the benefit of future generations.
This sounds like the guy (word used grudgingly) who wrote about firing an AR-15 for the first time, a few months ago. If it’s not the same person, at least they took the same writing class.
Good point. They can’t see that their white ancestors made their lives so easy that they have way too much time on their hands. They ought to be grateful and use their time to better the world instead of running their own race down and adding fuel to the fire.
