Flynn coordinated Russia call with senior transition official, prosecutors say
The Hill ^ | December 1, 2017 | Katie Bo Williams

Posted on 12/01/2017 9:17:26 AM PST by Pinkbell

Former national security advisor Michael Flynn spoke with a "senior official" in President’s Trump's transition team at the Mar-a-Lago resort to discuss what he should communicate to the Russian ambassador in a highly-scrutinized series of phone calls in December of 2016, according to federal prosecutors.

Flynn and the senior officials discussed both the recently implemented U.S. sanctions on Russia, as well as the fact that they did not want Russia to escalate friction between the two nations, lawyers on special counsel Robert Mueller's team told a federal judge Friday.

After the discussion, Flynn telephoned the Russian ambassador, Sergey Kislyak. Afterwards, he called the senior transition official and reported the sanctions discussion, prosecutors said.

Kislyak later followed up with Flynn and affirmed that Russia would moderate its response to the sanctions, put in place by then-President Obama. Flynn communicated that exchange to other transition officials, prosecutors said.

Flynn on Friday pleaded guilty to one count of providing false statements to federal investigators, thereby admitting to the charges made by Mueller's prosecutors.

According to court documents filed by Mueller, Flynn lied when he told investigators that he did not ask Kislyak to "refrain from escalating the situation" in response to sanctions that Obama had levied on the Russian Federation.

Flynn also lied, the counsel said, when Flynn said he did not ask the ambassador to either delay or defeat a related U.N. Security Council vote.   Prosecutors told Judge Rudolph Contreras that Flynn was told by the senior member of Trump transition team to reach out to other countries to influence the U.N. vote, in an effort to delay or defeat the resolution.

I realize that the ridiculous whores on Fox probably ran breathlessly to their mics - but even if Trump did as alleged, nothing illegal or even wrong was done.

Sorry to burst your bubble.

What does this have to do with Russian collusion?

Incoming administrations should always reach out to their counterparts.

Where is the collusion?

To be honest? This is great news. I think we can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. There’s nothing there.

>>>What is wrong with the transition team talking to the Russians? It is not a crime.<<<

The crime is he lied to the FBI.. Kind of like Scooter Libby. he lied to investigators but what that was not the focus of the investigation. However the press will surely try to spin this as proof Trump was doing something wrong with the Russians. Everything is political and propaganda with the news now.

No collusion. It was BS all along. What Mueller is apparently building a case around is the criminalization of US foreign policy.

Lots of hyperventilating over nothing. It shouldn’t be lost on anyone that this is all coming out on the day the Senate is to vote on the long-awaited tax bill. This is intended to both divert from the real news of the day (not to mention POTUS’ first “big” win) and to give the Trump haters something to crow about for a few weeks.

What transpired in the President-Elect Obama camp to derive his polices on Russia? Who did he talk to?

The Russian ambassador's phone was tapped.

If Flynn really contacted the ambassador and then later lied about it, then he's dumb as a bag of rocks and never should have had sufficient security credentials to cash a $20 personal check.

By some coincidence, the sanctions Obama slapped on them contained sanctions on companies that imported AKM’s and ammunition to the US. I’m sure that was accidental.

So, Obama’s FBI was wiretapping Phone calls of the incoming Administration and nobody asks how that is Legal?

To think that Nixon resigned from Office over a cover up of a third rate Burglary.

Banana meet Republic.

What is the crime? As National Security Advisor it would be natural for Flynn to reach out to the Russian ambassador. Yes, Flynn may have lied to the FBI, but trying to take down Trump for contacting the Russian ambassador as president elect is ridiculous.

Yawn. That was his role, even if briefly, and separate from his pre- or external activities. Shame that he lied to the vice-president and FBI. Lies have consequences for most of us—unless a Democrat or a Clinton.

Flynn didn’t “discuss” the sanctions. When they came up he said he couldn’t discuss that and it would be addressed at a future date. That’s a refusal to discuss, not a discussion.

Total set up by Yates and by Pence to get McMaster in.

The moral of the story is: Never say anything to the FBI. Not even with a lawyer present.

Can we please stop this idiocy on FreeRepublic?

How does Michael Flynn refuse to talk to the FBI if he's been appointed to a senior administration post that requires the highest level of security clearance, and has to undergo a thorough background check with a whole bunch of Federal agencies -- including the FBI?

I know what they charged him with. I have seen the indictment. If you look at Drudge and the rest of the MSM, the issue has become the substance of the meetings themselves and that Trump officials ordered the contacts as though it is something nefarious and illegal. It is not.

Did Mueller ever release that info on how much money he has spent yet? Wasn’t he supposed to do that by now?
