Sources: NFL agrees to commit nearly $100M over seven years to social justice causes
ESPN ^ | November 30, 2017 | Jim Trotter and Jason Reid

The NFL and a group of players reached an agreement in principle late Wednesday night to partner on a plan to address social justice issues considered important to African-American communities, ESPN has learned.

The unprecedented agreement calls for the league to contribute nearly $100 million over seven years to projects dealing with criminal justice reform, law enforcement/community relations and education.

During a conference call Wednesday night, Malcolm Jenkins and Anquan Boldin, who lead roughly 40 players who have negotiated with the league office about demonstrations during the national anthem, guided the group through the highlights of the package, which represents the NFL's largest contribution to a social issue, surpassing that of Salute to Service or Breast Cancer Awareness/Crucial Catch.

The partnership came a day after some players broke away from the Players Coalition because of their dissatisfaction with how Jenkins and Boldin have handled negotiations. Commissioner Roger Goodell, believing that an agreement was at hand, was furious when ESPN reported that players were breaking off, according to one source. But during an afternoon call, Jenkins asked that the commissioner and the owners continue to stand with the players and allow them to do important work in the community.

The agreement does not include language calling for players to end protests during the national anthem in exchange for funds; there's no implicit quid pro quo. But the NFL hopes this effort will effectively end the peaceful yet controversial movement that former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick started in 2016, when he refused to stand for the anthem.

I was watching game highlights on the NFL network the other day and couldn't believe how many empty seats there was. Every time the camera showed the stands all I saw was empty seats. I was really surprised to see so many empty seats in Philadelphia. The Eagle's are 10-1 and still can't fill the seats.

Ticket prices will drop so that only the aggrieved, impoverished illegals and ANTIFA/BLM/anarchists can root their favorite felons onward and upward.

I still say the NFL is now mostly a WPA for overweight felons at play.

BTW, this is proof positive that profit is not a major motivator for the elites. They care more about social status than money.

“Well, maybe they can use them now for monster-truck, moto-cross, sprint car venues.”

Yeah, the Oakland Coliseum is very near where the old 3/8” mile banked track used to be in East Oakland.

Exactly! They are doubling down. Who did they learn that from, I wonder? (Our president grows on people.)

A few more self-inflicted knife wounds should stem the bleeding.

Real Einsteins those NFL people are.

Liberals don’t actually give a damn about football. They’re happy to see it die. It’s the players who are the idiots here. They’re killing the goose that laid them a lot of golden eggs.

I’m seeing what the league is doing. I’m not seeing them hold the players’ feet to the fire and telling them they each need to spend X number of hours working to better poor black or poor white communities. All of these players have more money than most people will ever earn in a lifetime. It’s time they put their money and time where their mouths are.

This is ridiculous and will not win back NFL fans that have left over these protests.

Taking a step back, it’s really interesting what has happened to the NFL. Not long ago, NFL football was the dominant American professional sport, with growing viewership and dominance over other American sports. How did they respond to this? They slowed the game down by adding more and more advertising spots to games, with way too many non-sport related timeouts. They neglected their image, and instead of insisting that players avoid using the NFL as a soapbox for their personal agendas, they capitulated to them. These are important reasons (but not the only reasons) why the NFL brand is in decline.

One of the parties does not know how to negotiate.

Well, now that Trump is draining the swamp, the po’ commie-unities who depend on corruption will eventually need new funding sources. Looks like the nfsmell is the latest sucka. At least it won’t be the taxpayers.

The NFL has become Friday Night Lights as conceived by Ayn Rand.

That Commissioner is a real Liberal p*ssy. What the heck does this have to do with football!

No wonder Jerry Jones is trying to stop his contract extension.

Liberals also use other peoples money to fund leftist politics.
