Lake County prosecutor's office has filed charges against a Lake Central English teacher accused last week of using drugs in her classroom.
Samantha Cox, 24, of Cedar Lake, was formally charged on Monday with possession of cocaine, a felony, and possession of paraphernalia, a misdemeanor, according to Lake County court records.
Officers were called to the high school, 8400 Wicker Ave., around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday after students reported to the principal they saw Cox with drugs in her classroom, court documents said. A student "had video of what appeared to be a teacher 'snorting' a line of an illegal substance," according to the probable cause affidavit

Officers searched the car and found a glass pipe in the glove box, empty pieces of tin foil, torn open plastic baggies and two straws made out of rolled up paper, court records show.
Cox told police she bought $160 worth of cocaine that morning before arriving at school, the affidavit states.
"Ms. Cox advised she normally purchases her (drugs) after school but was feeling sick and needed to get some,"..
Cox said she was unable to ingest any of the drugs before school started, so she brought it inside with her

Lake Central Superintendent Larry Veracco... declined at the time to confirm if Cox was still employed by the district or elaborate further on the situation, saying it was part of an ongoing investigation.

Well if she can turn it around this incident may have saved her life, at the cost of her career.

The first thing drug addiction does is override any rational thought processes in your brain that keeps you from doing stuff like this.

She wont lose her job over this, the union will see to it that her “medical condition” is properly treated and she will resume work soon after
I know enough about coke (if it was coke) to know you don’t get sick when you want more, at least I’ve never heard that. The body craves it yes but sick? Not sure why I comment on that it just seemed like a weird excuse after being caught. Also, doubt this is the 1st time she’s done this, just never got caught before.

Well -and I’m assuming a lot here - maybe that’s not terrible.
IF she is just a user who is obviously addicted, being young and having earned a college degree, at least there is the potential for her to become sober, and I don’t think that society is served by making her unemployable. Plus, she will never escape her past.
Just seems to be different from those who we see often enough who you just know maybe 1 in 1000 have a chance of going straight.
They didn’t just find drugs in her car, but ALSO in her DESK in her CLASSROOM!!!
....On Wednesday, police brought Igar, a K-9 officer, to Cox’s classroom on the second floor of the school where the dog alerted police to possible drugs in the center drawer of Cox’s desk, the affidavit states.
After an assistant principal unlocked the drawer, police found “a clear tightly twisted bag with multiple small rolled up pieces of tin foil,” court records state. Police also found an “outer plastic wrap from a cigarette package” with rolled up tin foil pieces, as well as “a rolled up small piece of paper” that looked like a straw that a detective “knows to be used to ingest illegal narcotics through one’s nostril,” the affidavit states.....

To be fair, she did not snort the coke in “class,” she snorted coke in the classroom.
“Cox said she was unable to ingest any of the drugs before school started, so she brought it inside with her.”
People are in such a rush these days with so much traffic on the roads during rush hour, and those unexpected morning errands, that it is perfectly understandable that she did not have time to smoke that crack before going into the school.

Chicago teachers need every advantage, but coke? If you can afford that, well . . .
What I don’t understand is why she didn’t just go to a stall in the girls’ or ladies’ room to snort her fix.
Another reason to Homeschooled...Teachers who aren't high...
My elementary school had a teacher who was known to have an occasional ‘snort’ in the cloakroom...
