Thousands of felons across Alabama have registered to vote in recent weeks, according to Pastor Kenneth Glasgow, who is heading up a statewide effort to get felons to the voting booth.
Glasgow's goal is to get as many felons as possible signed up to vote before the end of the day Monday, the deadline to be able to cast a ballot in Alabama's Dec. 12 U.S. Senate special election.
"In the last month, I think we registered at least five- to ten-thousand people all over the state," Glasgow, president of Dothan's The Ordinary People Society (TOPS) advocacy group, said Monday. "I've got people all over the state registering people with my TOPS branches in Tuscaloosa, Birmingham, Montgomery, Enterprise, Dothan, Abbeville, Geneva, Gordon, Bessemer, we have a lot."
For generations, most Alabamians convicted of a felony were barred from ever voting in the state again, but the Definition of Moral Turpitude Act, a new law passed by the state Legislature and signed by Gov. Kay Ivey in May, cleared the way for thousands of felons to restore their voting rights.
The law lists several dozen felony convictions that are considered crimes "of moral turpitude," which means that anyone convicted of one of them loses the right to vote; other felons are now eligible to restore that right. Previously, the list of crimes that some registrars considered to be "of moral turpitude" was not clearly defined, and many felons simply believed they could never regain the franchise.

Spencer Trawick lost the franchise in 2015 when he was convicted of third-degree burglary, a felony. But Glasgow informed Trawick in June - while he was still incarcerated at the Dothan jail

Well, THERE’s a number you can nail down...SMH.
In this race we need to put up cameras outside voting stations... Make sure the number of people who go in to vote bears some resemblance to the number of votes counted.

All I know is that for those in Congress, they are open for corruption because it’s their living. If someone either has a lot of money or spends retirement in congress, said person might have what they need and be less susceptible. What do we know about Moore’s job situation? The deadline for Alabamians to register to vote has passed. As of today we have registered more than 584,252 making the total number of registered voters in the state a record 3,330,802 Alabamians.
Thanks to initiatives like online voter registration, the ERIC mailing, a new partnership with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, and many more, Secretary Merrill’s team has collaborated with the people of Alabama to register the largest number of new voters in state history.
“When we took Office in January of 2015, we committed to make sure every eligible U.S. citizen that is a resident of Alabama be registered to vote and have a valid photo id. With the help of our very capable team and the people of Alabama we have made great strides to accomplish this goal, and for that I say thank you,” said Secretary Merrill.
Merrill continued, “On November 8 don’t forget to bring your valid photo id, and if you need one call us at (334) 242-7200! We want to see you at the polls!”
Valid forms of photo id include:
Valid Driver's License
Valid Non-driver ID
Valid Alabama Photo Voter ID
Valid State Issued ID (Alabama or any other state)
Valid Federal Issued ID
Valid US Passport
Valid Employee ID from Federal Government, State of Alabama, County Government, Municipality, Board, Authority, or other entity of this state
Valid student or employee ID from a college or university in the State of Alabama (including postgraduate technical or professional schools)
Valid Military ID
Valid Tribal ID
Those numbers are for the Nov. 2016 General election cycle. They don’t
include numbers for this special election. Last day to register for this
upcoming special election was November 27, 2017.
