everal years ago, a woman who lives around the corner in Inglewood told me a story common to black people who were among the first to move into once-white cities. She and her husband bought their house in 1967. Every day that summer, she said, her next-door neighbor came out on his porch, glaring. Whenever he saw her, this white man shouted not a greeting, but a question: Why are you here? In a few months, he was gone, along with pretty much every other white family on the block.
I grew up in and around Inglewood and have lived here for the last 13 years. Walking home with my dogs three weeks ago, I was approached by a young white woman who, like me, is an animal lover. Turns out she and her husband had moved into the neighborhood recently. We like it so far, she said brightly. Like it? I felt a rush of resentment at a remark that to her, Im sure, was perfectly innocent. All I could think was: White folks abandoned Inglewood, and now theyre coming back with no memory or acknowledgment of all that, expecting neighborliness?
.....
The fact that whites are coming back to this once very contested space is not, I fear, evidence of the meaningful integration that has long eluded us. Its a warning that my black community is, once again, irretrievably at risk.

” my black community”
When we tried to protect our White community decades ago.....WE were Raciest.
OH yeah, .... Right!
Simon, hate comes in all colors.
I invite her to meet the Prince of Peace; Jesus the Christ- He changes hearts, and brings healing to all those who call upon Him.
White people moving away? Racism. White people moving in? Racism. White people living? Apparently racism. Do these people actually believe the non-sense they write?
He integrated while you learned nothing.
Typical.
.
Triggering phrases:
“ALL LIVES MATTER.”
“IT’S OK TO BE WHITE.”
This new neighbor lady probably went home thinking/saying, "Cool, I just met one of our new neighbors and she loves dogs too!" Now, imagine her reading the Sunday paper and seeing what that neighbor really thinks about her.
She and her husband bought their house in 1967. Every day that summer......50 short years ago. **** off, racist. Partisan Media Shill alert.
Imagine someone writing an editorial decrying black people moving into their neighborhood today.
It would likely receive a rather different reaction than this one.
Make up your mind.
Ay, por favor-esta mierda otra vez? I’m pretty sure the white/Caucasian people moving back there got a good deal on a house in a less-than-nice neighborhood, and they intend to make the area nicer and safer to live in-not to continue trashing it like the present residents have-I think some racist Black people call that “gentrification”. There is just no pleasing people who are racist-they are pissed if you move away when they move in, then they are pissed if you move back with the best of intentions...
I don’t get this. White people moving away was white flight, and was considered racist. But now whites moving back and gentrifying an area is considered a threat to a black area. What the heck?
I guess author thinks whites shouldn’t have moved out but also decries whites moving back and threaten the ghetto identity and all that.
You can’t win sometimes.
Was working at the courthouse there in the late 70s. Needed a haircut and stopped at a nearby barbershop.
The guy seemed surprised but did an OK job.
Now this is interesting. I had an aunt/uncle who lived in Inglewood in the ‘50s. Solid white, middle class, town. They got out in the ‘70s for Orange County because of you know what.
I think they’d find it amusing that things are coming full circle.
Is there racism on the Right? Sure...but there’s a lot more of it on the Left, and it’s an integral part of their philosophy, as shown by this article.
++++
You are right of course but the fact is that people prefer to live and associate with people like themselves. That preference involves language, political views, moral standards, religion and yes, skin color to name a few criteria.
While these criteria are not absolute for humansI I believe they are at least dominant. For most other animals (not including dogs, a rare exception) association with like kinds is absolute. We humans are attempting to evolve in a different direction. It isnt easy.
So is it racism or human nature that is the real issue here.
Looking at South Central, it’s prime land, world class weather and only minutes to the coast or downtown..Hard to believe they allowed that region to go belly up ghetto.
Of course since the biggest riots in modern American history, many blacks have been leaving LA/the west coast for points east, south, northeast etc...Such as Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Chicago. Their numbers have clearly been in decline in CA.
The racial hypocrisy stinks to High Heaven
And it’s been stenching up the Nation since the earliest days of “affirmative action”
If laws aren’t to be properly enforced, as they are written and intended, then they are to be ignored. “Diversity” my backside.
White is the New Nigger.
Was rumored years back that the brown gangs made living there pretty dangerous for the blacks,
Racist black woman. Get over it. Whitey did.
