Before this month, Roy Moore was best known nationally for refusing to remove a Ten Commandments monument from the Alabama state supreme-court building. Now, the aspiring senator is accused of hitting on teens at an Alabama mall and inappropriately touching a 14-year-old girl.
These allegations may be the end of Moore. Congressional Republicans have started disowning him, and he’s tentatively dropping in state polls. But it’s possible that the reputation of evangelical Christians will also suffer. Despite condemnations from a number of nationally prominent Christian leaders and a few in Alabama, many of the state’s faithful continue to back the controversial candidate.
To outsiders, the support might seem like a stark contradiction in values. Even to insiders, it can seem that way. “I’m … bothered,” wrote William S. Brewbaker III, a law professor at the University of Alabama, in The New York Times, “by what Mr. Moore’s popularity says about the sorry state of evangelical Christianity.”
The Moore scandal is part of a long history of complicated sexual politics in the Christian world. In her new book, Moral Combat, the Washington University in St. Louis professor Marie Griffith writes about American Christians’ battles over sexual harassment, birth control, and gender roles. This fall’s wave of sexual-assault accusations has often seemed to echo the past, bringing to mind Anita Hill’s accusations about Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas and Paula Jones’s allegations against former President Bill Clinton. Incidents like these, Griffith writes, all get tied up in the distinctive sexual politics of the Christian world.
The book—which covers much more than sexual-harassment scandals, including everything from Margaret Sanger’s legacy at Planned Parenthood to Alfred Kinsey’s obsession with clergy—comes out in December. Our conversation has been edited for length and clarity.

Both Moore and Jones have excellent records...with Moore in the lead with experience. I obviously don't care for Ms. Allred's approach...with her in Jone's pew, I would vote for Moore.
All the accusations originate as well as attacks on Moore such as this are from a media sources which supports positions like :Abortion, gender sex reclassification, gay marriage, and nullification of religious influence on culture. All of which are solidly opposed by candidate Roy Moore.
So Emma Green is saying she is so far removed from any comprehension of Christianity that she is a stand in for the “outside world” — that is the world outside of Christianity.
She is, of course, accepted discredited claims against Roy Trump as the truth at the same time, so maybe she is from the “outside world” of lies where truth never prevails.
She certainly knows nothing about hypocrisy either, having never raised her voice against the real antics of Bill Clinton, who claimed to be a Christian and Hillary Clinton, who defended him and defamed his conquests.
Of course the media promotes calling Christians hypocrites at every turn.
Everything we do looks like hypocrisy to the world.
Therefore I propose we do as we believe is right and disregard their opinions.
Vote for someone who will promote/allow the killing of babies, or vote for Roy Moore.

This is what gets me it has nothing to do with hypocrisy. We know that even if the worst of these allegations are true that amounts to practically nothing. And even if the worst of these allegations are true there’s been nothing in the last 40 years to indicate that this is anything that is part of his character. In other words if they’re accusing him of anything he has long since repented of it and that is a Christian standard to forgive.

What is offensive to me is the overt attempt to destroy Judge Moore — not just defeat him, but destroy his life — simply due to political differences.

This is not difficult to understand. To begin with we don’t know for sure what the truth is about 40 years ago. 2). It was 40 years ago and people change. Especially if God works in their life. 3). As a judge he represented christian values as far as we can tell, as well as anyone in this country. 4). In the bible God used flawed people exclusively. (Except his son). Everyone he used was flawed. Many of them DEEPLY flawed. We’re not looking for a perfect person because there are none. We’re looking for someone in every election who will allow God to use them to help bring this country back from the precipus. It is that simple.
