Why I know is that they used to think Mayans were so much more civil and “nice” than Aztecs but then some shocking digs produced proof that they were as vicious and demonic as the Aztecs, if not even worse. Aztecs, pulling hearts out and inhumane tortures and child sacrifice, were completely satanic. No redeeming qualities like a few American Indian tribes on the East Coast..

The Mayan civilization had collapsed by AD 900 for reasons that no one knows. All of their great stone cities were abandoned. This occurred centuries before the Spanish conquest.
The Aztec Empire is what Cortes conquered in 1521. The Aztecs occupied what is now Mexico City, with their pyramid like temple where they cut out the beating hearts of their still living sacrificial victims.
The Spanish were able to conquer them because every other tribe hated the Aztecs with a passion and were eager to get even.
