This week, families across our state are unboxing their Thanksgiving décor, choosing table cloths, and deciding who is going to be responsible for what dish this coming Thursday. Its that time of the year when we communities come together, put family disputes aside and get in the holiday spirit. Unfortunately, this holiday season comes with a different taste for many as hundreds of Iowa families will eat their Thanksgiving meals with uncertainty, anxiety and fear.
The lives of hundreds of families across our states are at risk thanks to Donald Trumps draconian immigration policies. Many of your immigrant friends and neighbors are already being subjected to intimidation from immigration authorities, while others are facing deportation.
Make no mistake, Donald Trump is doing everything he promised during his campaign. His administrations goal is to deport as many immigrants as possible, and two of their main targets are Temporary Protected Status (TPS) and Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) beneficiaries. This is not a drill nor an exaggeration, this is reality. Donald Trump wants to deport hard working Iowans like myself, which is want I call on my community to take action.
Trump has upended the lives of nearly 3,000 Iowans who have gone to college, started a family and contribute to their local communities by ending the DACA program. Now the future of these Iowans hinges on the actions of Congress, and whether they are able to pass legislation to allow these young people to live free from the fear of deportation.

Ooooh...draconian
Those that are here illegally.
Those here legally have nothing to fear. Those here illegally should respect our laws and return to there homes.
Do they sell turkeys in Mexico?
They aren’t “immigrants,” they are invaders.
This whole family can join their mother in where ever. I don’t see a problem.
They are living in fear that a sovereign nation will choose to enforce its border.
Obviously the idiot who wrote this piece doesn’t know the difference between illegal aliens and “immigrants”. This piece is a PERFECT example of why NOT to allow the left to control the dialogue by shaming accurate descriptive like Alien or assault rifle or Saturday night special or smart gun or hate speech.
Those who are here illegally can have two scoops!
Not only do we have an endless supply of illegals in the country, we also have a limitless supply of heart-rending maudlin stories about those illegals.
If these people hadn’t broken our laws in the first place, there would be no need for these tear-jerker stories.
BARF! Throw them all out and be done with it. They and we can then get on with our lives.
I like my fear with a little vanilla ice cream on the side, just how Grandma used to serve it.
“Those that are here illegally.”
Exactly. Stupid liberals. If you ask this idiot author if they will house these illegals, I’m sure Kenia says “no”.
Bullchit.
MY immigrant friends came here legally; they have "green cards" or citizenship papers, and they have no fear whatsoever of INS or ICE. Funny how it works that way ...
“Trump has upended the lives of nearly 3,000 Iowans who have gone to college, started a family and contribute to their local communities by ending the DACA program”
I didn’t know about this! Trump is awesome!
They should be thankful they haven’t been deported yet.
Do illegals even celebrate Thanksgiving?
Did Huffpo go to North Korea or Zimbabwe to see how they will be celebrating Thanksgiving this year?
I want my English language back! Illegal aliens are not the same thing as immigrants. Leftists have mastered the art of winning arguments in advance with their choice of terminology.
Shall we have a debate about how much Trump’s fascist policies will traumatize dreamers this holiday season?
Good.
What the hell does Dracula have to do with this?
Unless draconian is Transylvanian for "enforcing the law against law breakers".
immigrants will be doing fine.
Illegal immigrants should politely and quietly go back home.
Living here illegally is stealing from American taxpayers.
