BENSONHURST, Brooklyn (WABC) -- A man has been arrested after reportedly punching a woman in the face over a 'manspreading' complaint on the subway in Manhattan.
Derek Smith, 56, was arrested and charged with assault on Saturday evening.
Samantha Saia said the ordeal started as soon as she took a seat next to the man on an N train in Bensonhurst during the morning commute.
"He started pushing me and manspreading me into the wall," Saia said.
That's when Saia said he turned violent.
"He told me expletive, you expletive, I've raped white b****** like you before. You're nothing and then he elbowed me," she said.
So she said she put her earbuds back in and then it turned even uglier.
"He said 'Don't ignore me. I felt this.' I turned around and bam, I banged my head into a wall. And at that point I just felt blood gushing."
Her lip was bruised, swollen and bloodied.
But it could have been worse if a Good Samaritan didn't step in, and that's when a passenger on the train started recording.
The Good Samaritan jumped in and confronted the subway attacker. He forced the man to exit the train at the next stop.
Where was everybody else? If someone is talking to a woman like that and I’m around, I’m sure my switch would flip to go time.
Last early fall I was in a superstore in Alberta and as soon as I walked in I saw a woman walking quickly on the other side of cashiers away from a large Arab looking man. Lots of people looking and nobody doing anything. I set an intercept course and got between him and her, I stood in his way and forced him to stop at me. I politely said that I don’t think she wants your attention, and he immediately grew very angry and said that you Albertans think you’re impervious, but you don’t know what’s coming. I said I do know and why wait? Let’s start the party. I leaned closer and told him I know he’s just a rapeugee. He was shaking with rage but wouldn’t strike me, and I couldn’t kick it off, I’m white.
I made sure the woman made it to her vehicle and drove off without being followed.
I guess my point is, men need to be men and not let savages get away with poor behavior.

When you’re in public like this, it’s best to avoid situations like this one. If the guy is making it uneasy for you, get up and move. Stand up if you have to.
The guy is a big jackass, but confronting him isn’t going to turn out good for you. He’s already displayed he doesn’t give a rats ass what you think. That should tell you what comes next, if you get mouthy.
What happened to this woman was wrong. Sadly, some women are under the impression they rule the world and all the commoners have been trained to obey. Not hardly!

The subway woman wasn’t using much common sense. Why would she sit down between a man and the back corner where she was blocked in with no escape? Why did she not get up when he started manspreading and mouthing off instead of putting in her ear buds and staying? Surely, liberals can’t have brainwashed sheeple into zero situational awareness.

I've seen a lot of crazy stuff while riding the subway. Best one, was the time when the train was crowded and a jerk of a black man had his feet up on an opposing seat (two bench seats facing each other), denying others the use of an open seat. Big samoan guy comes up, grabs the black man's feet and throws the feet to the floor, and the samoan guy sits in the now-empty seat across from the black guy. The previously mean-faced black guy now cowering in fear and looking away and down to avoid the gaze of the samoan. Priceless! Lots of smiles on the faces of nearby passengers.
Mixed feelings...one asshole encounters a bigger asshole.
That would have been a hoot to watch.
It pains me to have to post what I did, but it is today’s reality. I certainly wouldn’t want someone I cared about to confront a guy like that.
He should be considered a suspect in any unsolved rapes. And submitting a DNA sample is the very least he ought to suffer. He brought it on himself.
He may be a decent person who was having a bad day, especially if he doesn’t have any prior arrests. He strikes me more as Virgil Starkwell nebbish, than Jack the Ripper.

Yes, there was a definite lack of situational awareness happening, but most people tend to think that people are basically good. Thinking that can get a person in trouble real quick.
