Al Franken Should Go (New York Times)
NY Times ^ | 11/16/07 | Michelle Goldberg

Posted on 11/17/2017 9:40:13 AM PST by drewh

Republicans, never particularly eager to hold their own to account, will use Franken to deflect from more egregious abuse on their own side, like what Trump and Roy Moore are accused of. Women with stories about other members of Congress might hesitate to come forward.

That horrifying photo of Franken will confront feminists every time they decry Trump’s boasts of grabbing women by the genitals. Democrats will have to worry about whether more damaging information will come out, and given the way scandals like this tend to unfold, it probably will.

The feminist thinks: Who cares? Replace them all with women! But this frenzied moment will not end with the collapse of patriarchy. There will be overreach and then a fierce and ugly backlash, as men — but not only men — decide we can’t just go around ruining people’s lives and careers by retroactively imposing today’s sexual standards on past actions.

Besides, as more and more men get swept up in this moment of reckoning, we’re going to have to figure out some mechanism by which those accused of offenses that fall short of assault can make amends and get their lives back.

The question isn’t about what’s fair to Franken, but what’s fair to the rest of us.

He should go, and the governor should appoint a woman to fill his seat.

The message to men in power about sexual degradation has to be clear: We will replace you.

The feminist gestapo is on the rise.

What -- precisely -- are "offenses short of assault"? Flirting? A casual an innocent remark? And what "amends" or more accurately, what ransom will these feminists approve of in order for a man to get his life back?

Why must the governor appoint a woman to fill this seat?

The national decent into the great Salem sexual harassment witch trials has begun.

Of course, the dumb@ss writer has to say that the fake allegations against Trump are the equivalent of Franken’s proven disgusting behavior.

Typical Slimes fake news tactic.

They are hoping that if they dump Franken they can now say, "Okay, we dumped him, you have to dump Trump."

To which I say, "If you go back in time to the 1990s and get rid of Bill Clinton, THEN I will consider dumping Trump. Until your time machine is ready, kiss off."

Franken should resign simply for his rank hypocrisy on this. He has never had any trouble using his office to push legislation to run other people through a legal process for the exact same thing.

This is what powerful men do. There is no story here.

Uh -- whut?

Think of chess. Frankken is a pawn and can easily be sacrificed as MN guv is a dim.

Losing Bama's Senate seat to a dim would be like losing a rook.

Tossing Al overboard is not a big deal politically. Dims will be able to say, see, we handle our women abusers and the GOP defends theirs.

The women in congress knew there was plenty of sexual problems going on and they did nothing about it! What does that say about them????

Be careful what we wish for. They have a plan. If Franken goes, no big deal. A Dem Gov will appoint new senator and they do not lose the seat. The Clintons are of no value anymore. If they are thrown under the bus, no big deal.

But those on the left are setting this up to take the high ground and go after Trump again for the tape and for women who accused him. They can’t go after him with full force until they clean their own ranks. They can even get rid of Menendez because of Murphy winning in NJ.

Republicans, never particularly eager to hold their own to account,

Has Michelle been living under a rock? Democrats ALWAYS circle the wagons, Republicans ALWAYS produce a circular firing squad.

The NYT is willing to trade Franken for Moore, because they think they will net one Democratic seat in the Senate. MN has a Democratic governor, who will appoint a Democratic replacement for the self-proclaimed “Giant of the Senate.”

Exactly. And precisely why it is perfectly safe to now go after Bill Clinton. No Clinton has a path to any political power so now admitting he is a predator is a perfectly cost free and easy action.

Ok....Something here doesn’t smell right.

Either this really blind-sided the left or there is something really up.

Careful what you wish for... the Weinsteinization of Clinton is already happening. Mind you, the reason it is happening is that DemonRats want to get a 2 4 out of it.... Hitlery won't go away on her own and this is the primary reason why they no longer are going to hold back on Bill. This process is actually well along....
