Great. They are already in the process of cloning Mastodons they found frozen in the tundra. Now they will have a cloned predator to eat them.

What could possibly go wrong?

I’m not sure I would call a dead lion “in perfect condition”. It’s Dead!

The cave lion is a subspecies of lion that went extinct around 12,400 years ago. It was one of the largest subspecies of a lion to have ever lived. Scientists believes it was as much as ten percent larger than modern lions. It's often depicted in cave paintings as having some kind of collar fluff and possibly stripes.

Cave Lion Basics

--Scientific Name: Panthera leo spelaea
--Habitat: Woodlands and mountains of Eurasia
-- Historical Period: Late Pleistocene-Modern (500,000-2,000 years ago)
--Size and Weight: Up to 7-8 feet long and 700-800 pounds
--Diet: Meat
--Distinguishing Characteristics: Large size; powerful limbs; possibly manes and stripes

IIRC, there’s an area of northern Siberia that is being developed into a Pleistocene park. Non-native grasses to that area are being eradicated and only flora that is from that age allowed to grow.

Perhaps one day Mammoths will roam again to be eaten by cave lions.

I’m glad it’s the Russians doing this and not the US. Our country has too many alarmists who see catastrophes under every bed and would block cloning attempts.
