Column: Politics shouldn’t override decency in cases of Roy Moore, Bill Clinton
Chicago Tribune ^ | November 14, 2017 | by John Kass

What is being lost as Republicans — the number dwindling every day — defend Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore from allegations of sexually assaulting teen-age girls?

There is a cost to defending Moore. Don’t kid yourselves that there is no cost to it.

And something is lost. So what is it?

With a corrupt establishment political center collapsing of its own rotten weight and the left pulling one way and the right pulling another — it seems that politics is everything to us now.

Speaking of which, remember when Democrats rallied around their big dog, then President Bill Clinton? Feminists and other Democrats trashed and ridiculed women who dared go public with their allegations against the most powerful man in the world.

“If you drag a hundred-dollar bill through a trailer park, you never know what you’ll find,” said James Carville, one of the lead Clinton defenders, about Paula Jones.

That was the beginning of team Clinton’s “nuts-and-sluts” strategy.

But when it comes to politics and sexual predators, we know some facts. We know that Clinton was a sexual predator. His defenders — including his wife — protected him. The nation suffered.

And now, some 30 years later, the left has discovered that character counts, and that there should be some kind of reckoning.

Democrats had their chance. And many were silent and many others were loud and public in their trashing of women to benefit Clinton.

Politics shouldn’t override, unless a democrat is involved and then it grants immunity.

Gropin Joe Biden for President, Bob Menendez for Veep!!!!

Twenty years too late but, dems and libs are having to admit they supported a sexual predator named Clinton...They try to soft soap it,but it’s there...Interesting tidbit...Bill Clinton raped Juanita Broderick in 1978 and Beverly says Moore tried in 1977....Both men were dems and only one gets slammed.hmmmmmmmm...

Until the next D has issues. Then they’ll forget all this.

They’re only criticizing Clinton now as cover for attacking Moore. Bill will be a hero again as soon as we forget about Moore’s election.

Now they're comparing Roy Moore, a good Christian man, to the evil lecherous hump Bill Clinton?

I wish I could vote TWICE for Roy Moore on December 12th, but I won't. But I will vote for him.

Make up a sign that says "I believe Judge Moore" and stand for an hour on a busy street corner. In that way you might gain more votes.

Only thing different here is that the accusers are not coming forward to be cross examined by the supporters of Moore. Bill’s accusers were more up front although he was defended by the media as mentioned so we did not really have people question their stories, why do so when you can just defame them instead? And the country did pay a price.

The country will pay a much greater price if we allow mere accusation to result in defeat and destruction of a career and a person.

May as well be in Salem, accuse someone of witchcraft and then hold them under water. If they die they were not witches, if they survive, then they are witches and probably very mad witches. But how many survived?

This is why Moore must be given the benefit of the doubt until the veracity of the accusations is verified. Check into the yearbook, release it to a lab and a bank of handwriting experts. What about the 14 year old? Did her mother know? is she going to vouch for her story? Was she told afterward? Why or why not? There are things missing regardless of how effective they told their story or how seemingly hesitant Moore’s refutation was. Don’t stop short of understanding, and shame on people like Judge Jeanine who knows that an incriminating piece of evidence (yearbook) can be fabricated after the fact. How long did the Washington Post have to perfect this story?

From this AM, courtesy of Widget Jr.

“This isn’t about Bill Clinton or the news ignoring past accusations aganist him. This is about accepting the accusations against Trump and Moore at face value, without question. Instead of ignoring the accusations against Clinton then, the news is ignoring problems with the accusations against Trump and Moore now.”

Conflating what Bill Clinton DID with what Roy Moore is ALLEGED to have done is sophism at it’s worst. Total BS.

And now, some 30 years later, the left has discovered that character counts, and that there should be some kind of reckoning.

Nonsense. The left will always act like the left. They will soon turn their own sexual predations and deviancy to their advantage by trying to establish an equivalence -- "See, everybody does it!". And ramp up the false accusations against their enemies.

We should expect it. If we read the Bible we know that "no servant is great than his master." If they lied about Jesus, they will make false accusations against his followers. We are told by Jesus to "Rejoice and be glad"...

11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. 12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you. (Matthew 5:11–12).

Nothing justifies sending a democrat to the Senate.

If the Republicans nominated an alleged serial killer and cannibal I would say elect him, and expel him if he’s convicted.

call me old fashioned.. but I tend to think of someone as innocent until proven guilty (like Bill Clinton). And unlike Democrats I wont stand by a rapist once they have been proven guilty.

Roy Moore isn’t accused of near anything that Bill Clinton is accused of.

It isn’t even close.

If believed, Moore’s problems all center around his 32nd year of life. There’s nothing from his 20s, late 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s, or 70s.

That is really odd.

There are no claims of penetration, skin on skin contact of genitals, or of his failing to stop when the woman said “no”.

That, too, is really odd.

If these were the claims against Harvey Weinstein, Hollywood would be lionizing him in an autobiography starring either a saint or a demigod.

There is a much greater cost, for you personally and for the country, in pushing false accusations for political purposes.

If you can’t understand this, you shouldn’t be offering your opinion on the matter.
