No. Authentic Lox is made by brining Salmon in a combination of salt, sugar, and varying spices. Most Lox in the US is "Nova Lox," which is cured with a milder brine and then cold-smoked. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lox
If you can, get Nova style lox from the fisk belly, either from farmed Atlantic Salmon or King salmon.

Maybe he just figures that as president, he should be careful what he eats. I'd bet that he takes his own trusted chef and untainted American food with him everywhere he goes.
Andrew Zimmern can be our gustatorial ambassador to Asia, it doesn't matter so much if he eats poisoned street food.
