Honduran Citizen Charged With Attempting to Use an Explosive Device in Popular Miami Mall
Department of Justice ^ | 10/23/17

Posted on 10/23/2017 5:56:26 PM PDT by markomalley

Vicente Adolfo Solano, 53, a citizen of Honduras residing in Miami, has been charged with attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction in a planned attack at a shopping mall in Miami.

Acting Assistant Attorney General for National Security Dana J. Boente, Acting U.S. Attorney Benjamin G. Greenberg for the Southern District of Florida and Acting Special Agent in Charge Timothy R. Langan of the FBI’s Miami Field Office made the announcement.

As described in the complaint, Solano planned to place and detonate an explosive device in a crowded area of a popular Miami mall.  Solano discussed his plot with a confidential human source and two FBI undercover employees.  According to the complaint, Solano provided three videos to the source, in which Solano makes pro-ISIS statements and expresses anti-U.S. sentiments.

Just prior to his arrest, Solano took possession of what he believed was an explosive device, took steps to arm it and walked toward a mall entrance in order to carry out his attack.  Unbeknownst to Solano, the device was inert and did not pose a risk to the public.

If convicted, the defendant faces a statutory maximum of life imprisonment and a $250,000 fine.  The maximum statutory sentence is prescribed by Congress and is provided here for informational purposes. If convicted of any offense, the sentencing of the defendant will be determined by the court after considering the advisory Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.

Solano is scheduled to have a pre-trial detention hearing on Thursday, Oct. 25, at 10:00 a.m. before U.S. Magistrate Judge Chris M. McAliley.  The arraignment is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 6.  Solano traveled to the U.S. on a tourist visa and was granted temporary legal status for humanitarian reasons in 2002.

A criminal complaint is only an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

Mr. Boente and Mr. Greenberg commended the investigative efforts of the FBI.  The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Karen Gilbert of the Southern District of Florida and Trial Attorney Jolie Zimmerman of the National Security Division’s Counterterrorism Section.

Nice to see they do other things besides spying on Trump, and politicking for Rats. Would be nice if it was something other than planning terror attacks, except these plots are the only ones the Feds seem to prevent.

“Authorities said that although Solano made pro-Islamic State videos, there wasn’t evidence to suggest he had any connection to ISIS or another terrorist group.”

Does it matter if there is no direct connection (yet)? He’s another radicalized Muslim.

This post is good reading for the comments as well.

Indeed, brothers and sisters, why does the media present him as a “South Florida man”?

The defense will make entrapment stick and the FBI goes skating along to another fake investigation they can claim as a victory and turn this guy into an informant for them. Yes I’m jaded. #NeverForget

Wait, people still go to malls?

I haven't been to a mall for about a decade. The closest one is in another town about 15 miles away.

We went there for Christmas shopping during the economic meltdown during GW's last year to get stuffed animals for the grand kids. The local police had closed down the substation in the mall. The teens and hordes of 20 somethings had taken over the non police patrolled mall. The so called private Security guys were afraid to do anything. I was very uncomfortable with the hordes of teens and 20 somethings milling inside and about the mall. After shopping, I told my wife that I was not going back there. She said I was over acting. Within a week, several strong armed robberies happened in the mall parking lots that were reported, (many were probably not reported). My wife knew two women, who were robbed outside that mall. One had presents stolen that she was carrying and from inside her car stolen. Another had her vehicle car hi jacked as she was trying to enter it. She wasn't hurt and was terrified for weeks after that. We finished our Christmas shopping on the internet, and now it is 99% via the internet. This year, we will also, use the military exchanges via the new online program for veterans. Their new program offers great prices, free shipping and no California sales tax.

“Authorities said that although Solano made pro-Islamic State videos, there wasn’t evidence to suggest he had any connection to ISIS or another terrorist group.”

WRONG! Islam is a terrorist group.

Islam is not a religion, it is a terrorist cult whose purpose is to rid the world of Infidels.

The KORAN commands ALL MUSLIMS to kill infidels. Most Muslims as we know do NOT kill other people but almost all buy into the concept of cultural jihad. Instead of shooting you or your family, these Muslims are working to overthrow western governments so that Sharia Law can be instituted. Once Sharia Law gets a foothold, then the radicals can rape your daughter just because she is not properly dressed per Sharia requirement. And a Sharia judge will declare the infidel woman guilty and order her killed. The Muslim rapists will be set free.

But then a small percentage of Muslims will bomb innocent people in a mall. A small percentage of Muslims will run cars into innocent people to kill them.

How do you tell which Muslims will kill you and which Muslims will just work to overthrow your government? You don't, instead you declare Islam a terrorist organization and ban it from the west.

If you want to be a Muslim, get on an airplane and fly to a hellhole with Sharia Law.
