On Tuesday, I had the chance to attend a radio row on the White House grounds. I set up in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, and I prepared for a flood of surrogates and others to discuss President Donald Trump's tax plan. I hoped that some of the power players would stop by but assumed it would be a slew of mid-level staffers sharing the same stiff talking points about helping the middle class.
What I got was Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross, press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, economic adviser Gary Cohn, Vice President Mike Pence and the president of the United States, Donald Trump.
It was my first chance to speak to my former governor as vice president. It was my first chance to speak to Trump as president. And I learned a couple of things ... like the difference between the men in person and the men on TV.
What do I think of President Trump and the vice president?
President Trump is not the guy on TV. He's very soft spoken. I had to turn the mic up to hear him on radio. I asked him a question about House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) calling him “violent” and his policies “dangerous.”
You know what he said? “Well, she's a politician.” There was no counter-punch. There was no, “let me tell you about Nancy Pelosi!”
It was politician-like. It was different than everything we see on TV. I mean different, fundamentally. His attitude, his presence, his contemplative nature on the questions; it's not what I was expecting.

I admit to being emotional about this but can you even imagine the pain and anguish the Trump family goes through on a daily basis?
There is a fundamental decency gene missing in so many of those against Trump and his family.
I have never been one to hate. Until now.

Trump sounded like he always sounds. No different.
He should do these more often. The National media is horrible and will step all over his message and distort it. This is more substantive, of more value

I have often said the same thing.
Melania - what awful stuff she is having to endure.
The kids are old enough, and still young enough, to be able to deal with it, and in some ways relish and enjoy it.
But POTUS DJT did not have to put his family through this.
He could have retired, played golf on any one of his 17 world class golf courses, enjoyed family, friends, dinners at his restaurants, and just enjoyed his hard work.
But no. He is now POTUS DJT. Be thankful that he has put himself on the line for us; and is enduring the extreme vitriol and hate that is directed at him, his family, his friends, and his administration.

Maybe it’s just me but I noticed no difference in this interview with everything else I have seen Trump do on tv. No he didn’t shout but this was a simple radio interview it wasn’t a campaign rally. He seemed his usual self to me.

Here’s a sure-fire way for President Trump to get a tax plan passed that will benefit all Americans: Tell Congress to extend the same tax package to the American people that they extend to themselves.
