On a related note. A beautiful area for riding bikes. Some nice trails snake (pun intended) along the base of the Table Mountains. This is why I love Colorado!

Pretty much my back yard. I’ve been on top of that many times. Very exciting fire there a few years ago.

Time for a rattlesnake hunt.

Prizes for biggest, ugliest, oldest, and meanest.

Meat, skin, fangs sell at market prices.

Don your mail gentlemen (and ladies), secure your chaps and boots. Time to have some fun.

They can hibernate in massive numbers. Party all winter long.

On the front range of the Rockies rattle snakes are fairly common, to the extent, if you are a golfer and your ball disappears into a bushy arroyo (gully) you don't look for it ... consider it gone. In contrast on the other side of the Rockies (the western slope) the pygmy rattler is the only type of rattle snake we have to deal with ... and they are rare.

there is a concentration of rattlesnakes near the trail what are getting ready to hibernate.

I can find 8th graders at inner cities schools that have a better command of the English language than does Mr. Mitchell.

Actually the island of St. Kitts doesn’t have snakes, because they imported the mongoose to take care of it.....
Now St. Kitts is over run with mongoose and monkeys!

A lot depends on if the rattlesnake has eaten recently regarding the quantity of the toxin. Young rattlesnakes are potentially more dangerous because they are not able to regulate as well the amount of toxin. Years ago I had just did an inspection and was writing a report. My sciatica was bothering me so I raised my left foot on top of a elevated carson box. All of a sudden the contractor tapped on my shoulder and pointed down to coiled young rattlesnake. Fortunately for me the snake was cold and very docile.

Week before last I counted 4 dead prairie rattlers dead long 119.

Actually one wasn’t dead, it was coiled in the middle of the lane, I missed it (on the bike), it struck at the car behind me and disappeared. Saw it mangled up on the shoulder the next day.

I have pics of a 7 ft bull snake crossing a parking lot, headed towards a prairie dog colony for meal before it’s winter nap.

It’s that time of the year.
