What happened to baseball national anthem?
10/21/17 | kingcanuteus

I watched the pregame and beginning of the Yankees Astros game on TV last night and didn't see the national anthem. Was it actually performed or did the network (or the Astros) decide not to televise it?

As for me, until I see it performed, a radio broadcast is good enough for me.

Had it pegged on day one. First they don’t show and by next season they won’t have it at all. The sheeple will soon forget and forgive.

We are talking baseball not football, only one baseball player took a knee and he only did that one time. Baseball has an entirely different culture then football. The incident you are talking about was an NFL football game in London.

NFL protest: Players kneel for US National Anthem in London – fans call it treason

True but the singing has become tradition. I dont recall watching a game that they did not show the singing of GBA. We will know if the networks are up to something during the World Series.

“We will know if the networks are up to something during the World Series.”

If they don’t show or sing it, what would you suppose would be their motive? It might not even be a network decision, it may be a home team decision. Besides, I’d rather hear “Take Me out to the Ballgame” in the 7th inning.

Didn’t think there was. In any event, the Anthem played at sports events came into use at the beginning of WW2 and our involvement for patriotic purposes. Eventually it became a tradition.

I have mixed feelings because I’ve seen and heard many bad renditions of the anthem before baseball games. I’d rather not hear it than to hear someone screw it up.

A bad version of the National Anthem is better than having the left successfully denormalize the singing and playing of it.

Most MLB tv games for well over a year have not shown the playing of our national anthem on tv.

All Yankee games on local TV show the National Anthem. For home games, they also show the playing of God Bless American in the 7th inning.

Good for the Yankee Owners.

We have gone to a few SF Giant games, and everyone from Fans to Players and Coaches stood for the National Anthem.

For some reason, we didn’t realize that they didn’t play the National Anthem for televised games until the local musician/singer told us.

This might become an issue next season.

Thanks again for your feedback re the Yankees, and good for them.

To give cover for the NFL degenerates. If Baseball does not show the singing of the National Anthem and the Singing of God Bless America then that helps to not make the NFL look so bad.

I promise you if they don't show them it's the decision of the left wing anti American television networks, NOT Major League Baseball.

“To give cover for the NFL degenerates”

I understand your point. Gotta disagree on “God Bless America” though. It reminds me of when Congress sang it shortly after 911. It seemed right and patriotic at the time, but in retrospect, I doubt many were truly sincere about it. That memory, plus the fact remains that it’s not a good song, makes my preference to leave it out of the broadcast...whether it’s performed, or not.

No it doesn’t bother me, just surprised when people go on sports threads and talk about how boring the sport is.

Seriously? You can’t talk about a sport on a sports thread?

no that is not what I mean, I am fine with sports discussions, would never disallow a persons right to speak their mind, it just surprises me when people go on to these sports threads to say they don’t like the sport.
I have zero interest in basketball, for me, I am not going on to a basketball thread to talk down the sport or its fans - that is just me, I skip over the thread. You are free to talk badly about anything you wish even if you have no interest in it.

Guess then we should start a thread to talk about sports and the pro’s and con’s about it.
