Does placing a 'no valuables inside' sign in a car window deter break-ins?
Car burglaries are at epidemic levels in San Francisco

In San Francisco, where no automobile parked on the street is immune from glass-smashing thieves, some people have taken to posting signs on car windows announcing that there are no valuables inside.
The hope, of course, is that a thief will read the notice and decide: "Huh. No valuables in this one.I guess I'll break into some other car."
On Tuesday, a Reddit user posted a photo of such a sign and posed the question "Do you think it works?" to the Reddit community. A lively debate ensued.
"Sounds a lot like something that someone with valuables in their car would say," wrote a skeptical Maddox83a.
But iamthewaffler disagreed, citing personal experience.
"It's strong signaling that works VERY well," the commenter wrote. "The intended victim for thefts from cars are people who are from out of town, other "safer" parts of SF, etc who don't know that certain areas are very prone to car break-ins. If you have bothered to print out a sign and put it in your window, that shows you know exactly what neighborhood you're in and the chances of anything valuable being in your car are extremely low.
"These are crimes of opportunity, and if you simply let the would-be thief know that you're from this part of town and aware of the danger, they'll pass right by.

Is the sign made of solid gold?
In Boston during the 1970s, we would leave the window down so when they stole your radio at least you wouldn’t freeze your ass off because of a broken window.
Was he in New York City, by chance? There was a rash of smashed windows and stolen Blaupunkt stereos. Hoping to save his windows, a guy put a sign in his car that said “no stereo.” The window was busted anyway, and on his sign below “no stereo” was written “get one.”
Next up, signs in the front of your home.......
A guy I knew, in San Francisco had a convertible. Told me he never locks the doors so no one would slice his ragtop to get into the car. Yup, doors unlocked, but a thief cut his ragtop to get in without first trying the doors. So much for that idea.
70s level of crime has returned. SMH at the idiot leftists going soft on crime and expecting different results.
Write it in Spanish and Ebonics.
By the way, I park my truck in San Francisco a lot, for many years, and it never gets bothered. I think it’s my NRA stickers on the windows that help.
Yes, that was in NYC, and at the time, there was a rash of stereo thefts. Back then, people would buy their own stereo systems to replace whatever came with the cars.
I also replaced my stereo systems back then, but was lucky not to have them stolen. I did have an Atari computer stolen, which at that time was more rare than stereo systems.
It signals “I’m desparately lying” instead.
In Texas she left her windows down because her stuff was safe. In Orlando she locked her doors to stop people from stealing. In Miami she left her doors unlocked and one window rolled down so thieves wouldn't break the window when the stole the radio...
What are Baby on Board stickers supposed to do? What if you have both, baby on board and no valuables on board?
For your home, a plan is to put a few dollar bills in plain sight on a table you can see through a window. If the bills are gone, at least you’re in condition red when you walk through the door.

NO WAY!...San Francisco????
We need to teach them to read!...its that easy!!~
But they continue to pass anarchist laws cause it's the "new normal."
About as effectively as "rape free zone" signs deter Moslems from raping in European public swimming pools.
Kinda like the garbage collector strike in NYC around Christmas many yrs back....everybody with any brains wrapped theit garbage in Christmas paper and left the doors unlocked...
