Ask anyone on the left, melting is a bad thing, it's part of global warning. Besides, if you keep interest groups, not just cultural but issue based as well, each in their own little pot, it's easier to harvest votes. Kind of cultural vote gerrymandering. Encouraging immigrants to become Americans by embracing American values may be good for whole, but for leftist vote getters it's counter productive. Create anger, better to convince cultural and racial groups here for generations they're not part of the nation.

Consider the word "tortilla". It is Spanish for little cake. To use the Spanish word for the native flat corn pancake is cultural appropriation of the worst kind because the conquistadors took over the entire country instead of just having a weekend taco festival.
