Big Bang Theory's Mayim Bialik Slammed For ‘Modesty’ Response To Harvey Weinstein Scandal

Actress Mayim Bialik has responded to criticism after she wrote a New York Times essay over the Harvey Weinstein scandal.

Bialik wrote of the pressure to appear attractive that she felt as a teen actress, affecting her self-esteem to this day. She added that when she returned to acting after earning a doctorate in neuroscience, she “experienced the upside of not being a ‘perfect 10.’… Those of us in Hollywood who don’t represent an impossible standard of beauty have the ‘luxury’ of being overlooked and, in many cases, ignored by men in power unless we can make them money.”

Bialik, who has been open about her embrace of Orthodox Judaism, explained that in order to protect herself, she has chosen to dress modestly and avoid flirting with men.

“In a perfect world, women should be free to act however they want,” she wrote. “But our world isn’t perfect. Nothing — absolutely nothing — excuses men for assaulting or abusing women. But we can’t be naive about the culture we live in.”

Backlash to the op-ed was swift.

Writer and journalist Ijeoma Oluo called the piece “gross victim-blaming misogyny disguised as feminism.”

Guardian columnist Jessica Valenti wrote, “Being an awkward girl with a big nose never protected me from harassment.”

And fellow actress Patricia Arquette tweeted directly at Bialik, writing, “It is not outrageous for anyone to be expected to be treated in a professional [manner] by anyone in a professional relationship.”

In response, Bialik tweeted Sunday that “ Anyone who knows me knows that’s absurd and not at all what this piece was about. It’s so sad how vicious people are being when I basically live to make things better for women.”

Bialik will appear in a Facebook Live broadcast with the Times on Monday to discuss her piece.

Movies and TV shows should have the following disclaimer:

“NO CHILDREN WERE MOLESTED, NO WOMEN WERE RAPED, MOLESTED OR GROPED IN THE MAKING OF THIS MOVIE.”

Mayim needs to stay out of this if she doesn’t want to be personally and repeatedly insulted. No one looks good in this Weinstein scandal. Fair or not, Mayim gives the impression of someone biased largely due to her very plain, defiantly dowdy appearance.

at least Mayim has made enough over the years from BBT and Blossom that her career future is secure. she may never work again after this...

Most women on the left, especially in the pop music entertainment field, go around talking and dressing like trashy whores who are advertising nothing but sex sex sex.

What do they expect from men?

For those who don't know...Bialik earned a B.S. degree in neuroscience, with minors in Hebrew and Jewish studies, and went on to study for a doctorate and earn a Ph.D in neuroscience from UCLA.

Nice picture of her, but she usually allows them to portray her as a very homely nerd.

But don't forget that we're being told that Chelsea is "glam," and that Meryl Streep's face would NOT make a train take a dirt road.

That was an outstanding TZ episode! I think Burgess Meredith was my favorite of the actors with multiple appearances. William Shatner would be up there too.

Mayim is extremely smart and cagey, imo. There is a fortune to be made as the comedy 'second banana'/best friend and no one is looking to jump into bed with her..

She keeps her high moral standards and laughs all the way to the bank!

She probably gets excluded from certain hollywood associations because she has a Phd and can think for herself...not malleable or able to be easily manipulated.

Why anyone would go through the challenge of getting a doctorate in a hard science only to go back to acting is a bit beyond me. But as it happens she found the perfect role so I guess that was serendipity at work.

I think the BBT actors make something like 800k per episode...

"She probably gets excluded from certain hollywood associations because she has a Phd and can think for herself...not malleable or able to be easily manipulated."

And that's also probably a very important reason that she wasn't "trifled" with by producers and directors .. and the other Hollywood lowlifes.

She makes $500,000 (1/2 million) an episode for BBT — mot counting residuals which are considerable.

According to this article she is worth $12 million: https://www.aol.com/article/finance/2017/03/01/how-much-money-does-the-cast-of-the-big-bang-theory-make/21864890/

Not hurting.

Cleans up nice, too.

We are not talking about all forms of harassment Jessica. Just sexual harassment. I'll bet the most harassment for your big nose was from other women too.

she can play a few types...but she is the classic 'best friend' of the lead character.
