Leader of California Senate to challenge US Sen. Feinstein

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A California legislative leader announced Sunday he will challenge U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein, setting up a 2018 contest between two Democrats that will highlight generational, geographic and ideological contrasts in the party that dominates state politics.

The 84-year-old Feinstein, a former San Francisco mayor and grande dame of California Democrats, will face state Senate President Pro Tem Kevin De Leon, 50, a Los Angeles Hispanic who is largely unknown statewide.

In a brief video announcement posted online, De Leon promised to work for job growth and economic security in Washington, recalling his single immigrant mother who cleaned homes to pay the bills.

In an accompanying statement emailed to supporters, he vowed to aggressively fight the agenda of President Donald Trump, continuing the resistance of California government to Trump's proposals on health care, immigration and climate change. Democrats hold every statewide office and control both chambers of the Legislature.

The statement echoed criticism from liberal activists that the centrist Feinstein has been too accommodating in some of her assessments of the White House. De Leon was among the Democrats who berated Feinstein last summer after she suggested Trump could learn in time to become a "good president."

"We now stand at the front lines of a historic struggle for the very soul of America, against a President without one," De Leon wrote.

Trump "disregards our voices. Demonizes our diversity. Attacks our civil rights, our clean air, our health access and our public safety," he said.

The Senate leader enters the race, by standard measures, a long shot. De Leon is prevented by term limits from seeking another trip to Sacramento.

Feinstein has been a political fixture in the heavily Democratic state for years and is closely associated with issues that typically drive state voters......

One of the gifts of the left that our idiot voters approved in a referendum is open primary with the top two vote getters going on to the general. So for CA Senate to replace Barbara Boxer you had your choice in the general between two ‘rats. It will be the same for this seat and all statewide offices next year

This would be best settled with a “dual”. :-)

The mis-spelling is intentional—Freepers can do their own web searches and get the joke.

We now stand at the front lines of a historic struggle for the very soul of America

Yeah. Will we turn that soul into Mexico - the nation that de Leon is part of - or will it remain America?

de Leon is NOT an American either by descent, birth or ethnicity.

Both his parents were illegals, and he claims citizenship because he alleges he was born in San Diego or Los Angeles, the story keeps mutating.

But it doesn't matter. His status has never been determined or adjudicated.

Hands down I vote for: he's not an American.

He's the poster child for why we should clarify the 14th Amendment to make it clear that your parents have to be here legally if they are not citizens. Wong Kim Ark v. United States did not address the issue.

And while we're at it, let's understand who El Caudillo Wannabe really is:

- De Leon organized rallies and riots against Proposition 187 after it passed OVERWHELMINGLY in 1994

- De Leon was behind the lawsuit against 187 that came before Mariana Pfaelzer in 1996 where she ruled that it was un-Constitutional because it violated Federal Supremacy in immigration

- De Leon is the guy behind SB54 which makes it illegal for the police in California to cooperate with ICE, thus making California a so-called Sanctuary state

- De Leon wrote and passed a law REPEALING virtually ALL of Prop 187 I believe in 2016

It's ludicrous to listen to this Mexican Reconquistador rap about the Constitution of the United States.

HE HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE UNITED STATES AND HAS NO RIGHT TO MAKE LAWS FOR US SINCE HE'S NOT AN AMERICAN.

There is no point at all in debating the Constitution with him - he just fabricates anything from it to legitimize Mexican rule in California.

"Kevin" de Leon: the Wannabe Caudillo of California

Caudillo = Dictator

And by the way, what has Jefferson Beauregard Sessions III done in response to SB54, which is an act of rebellion, nullification and secession against the United States?

NOT A DAMN THING

Surely his handlers have created a phony birth certificate by now?

They better hope Feinstein’s people don’t have a copy of the real one.

"De Leon is major factor in CA’s new (anti-)gun laws."

Thanks for mentioning 2A.

In case that you weren't aware of the following concerning 2A and the states, you will probably find it interesting.

Note that the congressional record shows that John Bingham, the main author of Section 1 of 14A, had used 2A as an example of constitutionally enumerated rights that 14A applied to the states.

See 2A about in the middle of the 2nd column of the following page from the congressional record, that page a part of Bingham’s clarifications of 14A.

http://memory.loc.gov/cgi-bin/ampage?collId=llcg&fileName=100/llcg100.db&recNum=437

So the states committed themselves to respecting 2A-protected gun rights when they ratified 14A (14A ratified under questionable circumstances).

CA’s “top two” rule will mean these will be the options next November. Odds on a pubbie making the final cut are slim.

The Greatest Crime in the History of America

The rulers of Mexico and their agents here like De Leon are drooling at the prospect of gaining control of the military might of the U.S. simply by walking in and using their people to elect themselves.

Why make nukes when you can just take them?

De Leon is making his big move.

Of course - it's hitting critical mass over there where the monster is turning on its creators. Importing invaders by the thousands, extending to them every courtesy including handing them rights & privileges they don't deserve - namely voting - is going to have consequences. The Americano-Anglo demos are going to outsmart themselves right out of power.

Thanks for the ping.

I believe he should be compelled to produce his birth certificate. If it can be demonstrated he was born in the US, fine.

Now, where are the conservatives?
