Racial identity policies are ruining Edina's fabled schools
Star Tribune ^ | October 9 2017 | KATHERINE KERSTEN

In place of academic excellence for all, the district’s primary mission is now to ensure that students think correctly on social and political issues — most importantly, on race and “white privilege.”

District leaders enshrined this new mission in EPS’s “All for All” strategic plan, adopted in 2013. The plan mandates that, going forward, the EPS must view “all teaching and learning experiences” through the “lens of racial equity.”

If “equity” meant “treating kids equally,” all thinking Minnesotans would support it. In this context, however, it’s code for racial identity politics — a simplistic blaming of “white privilege” for the racial learning gap and any other problems that minority populations experience.

The “All for All” plan mandates sweeping change to how education is delivered in Edina. For example, it dictates that, from now on, the district will hire “racially conscious teachers and administrators.” It also declares that students must “acquire an awareness of their own cultural identity and value racial, cultural and ethnic diversities.”

Racial equality is largely mental. If one can’t or won’t desire to succeed and to be responsible, he will never be equal.

It’s simple as that

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Gee! That’s not hard.

Nearly every teacher in this nation was trained by godless Marxists in Marxist-run colleges and universities. This is true for both private and government schools.

SCARY!!!!

“lens of racial equity”
There is no lens!
What they mean is that savages’ failures are the fault of those evil White “oppressors” whose money must be seized from them and given to the lazy slobs who blame everything on Whitey.

Lets be clear about this. If you are a white parent, and you have your kids in Public School, you are guilty of child abuse!

If you teach through a “lens of racial equality” you are casting facts through an altered perspective.

Teach everyone to treat one another as equals. You cannot teach them to “celebrate” one another or and should not indoctrinate race hatred against the “legacy” of white people.

Kinda surprised that the Red Star-Tribune would actually publish this article.

Edina’s “fabled schools” can only be ruined through the acquiescence and complicity of the parents who send their kids to these schools, so I’m not sure this is even newsworthy.

It must be remembered that the whole present problem results from inequality.

Inequality in the form of military power and intellectual command allowed certain African peoples to be defeated, captured and enslaved. Now they claim equality.

Baltimore, Deetroit, Philadelphia would indicate otherwise

Stop thinking your skin color is better than everyone elses [sic]. Everyone is Special!

Why is this even a subject in a first grade setting? Everyone is not special. If you buy that, by definition no one is special. Skills and talents are normally distributed; 50% are above average and 50% are below average. The problem is that teachers like these think no one is below average so the either dumb down the materials being taught or they bloat the grades higher than they should be. End result: You teach kids effort isn't necessary to get a passing grade, and therein begins the slide down that slippery slope for the rest of their lives. These Participation Trophy kids are in for a rude awakening when they are forced into the real world.

‘When everybody is special, that just means no one is special’ - The Incredibles movie

Our son grew up in California where everybody gets a trophy in the first year of every Youth Sport. We wondered how it would be for him when he realized that not everybody is deserving of accolades. We tried to prepare him, but it was tough. This attitude does kids no good. They EXPECT to be celebrated, no matter how they do and that’s not the real world. But that’s how the Left wants life in this country to be....constant turmoil and anger. They take the joy out of EVERYTHING.

Teach them they are OWED reparations because evil whitey took it away from them. The bottom line here is take a look at testing scores from the school district to see the outcome of this SJW experiment.

It easily fixed. Parents who want their kids to have a decent education should run for school board, volunteer at school, start a PTA and spread the word by talking to their neighbors to writing letters to the editor.

In MN, Edina schools have long been ranked among the best schools in the state. Edina is a very wealthy Minneapolis suburb. Btw, this Social Justice Warriors process is going on in a huge number of schools throughout the nation. Look at the new curriculum of the AP English and AP History classes and you will see that the top high school students are being indoctrinated in Leftist thinking.

It’s not “white privilege,” it’s “work ethic,” including success in education, marriage, and, yes, professional success. The privilege is living how you want and where you want. No matter what your race.
