'No one wants to take our guns'? Oh, really?

Almost immediately after the Las Vegas shooting came the calls for “common-sense” gun control. The quest almost always begins with a reassurance that “no one wants to take away your guns.”

Not everyone read the memo.

Nelson Shields, founder of Handgun Control Inc., the organization that became the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, in a 1976 interview could not have been more clear about his group’s goals: “Our ultimate goal – total control of handguns in the United States – is going to take time. My estimate is from seven to 10 years. The first problem is to slow down the increasing number of handguns being produced and sold in this country. The second problem is to get handguns registered. And the final problem is to make the possession of all handguns and all handgun ammunition – except for the military, policemen, licensed security guards, licensed sporting clubs and licensed gun collectors – totally illegal.”

In 1993, a Los Angeles Times editorial called for the repeal of the Second Amendment: “You will not feel safe, your children will not be safe, until there are almost no guns on the streets and in homes. No guns, period, except for those held by law enforcement officers and a few others, including qualified hunters and collectors. … We must, as a nation, move toward a very different model, one that presumptively bars private citizens from owning a firearm unless they can demonstrate a special need and ability to do so. … We think the time has come for Americans to tell the truth about guns. They are not for us; we cannot handle them. They kill people, our children included. It’s time to get rid of them. Period.”

Yeah, but they've probably softened their beliefs over time. NOT! They are a lot more careful now. See follow up post on this thread for a link to their "manual".

The pretentious crowd on my FB list will post “no one wants to take your guns,” and then also post articles about Australia - where they took everyone’s guns.

They’re so busy trying to sound superior to The Deplorables, they don’t seem to be aware how stupid they sound.

Exactly- and meanwhile - if I’m to go by the posts my liberal friends are putting up.
Their clear concise message right now is:
“Of course we don’t want to take your guns. We just want to have common sense gun control - like Australia”

No-one has guns except law enforcement and a few others? (ie. you can bet leftist intelligentsia will still want their armed body guards)...

Hmmm, a societal structure where only the government and their "law enforcement" has guns... there's a name for that... Oh yeah, "police state."

How well have police states worked out throughout history? I mean, other than for the select few at the very top...even there, the "retirement" plan isn't so great for those that fall from power.

Yeah, they really fooled us with that line huh? LOL! Not. Simply remind them there was NO 2nd amendment down under.

Exactly. If you can smuggle drugs into the country, you can smuggle in guns.
Remember, guns are banned on school campuses which is why they make easy killing grounds.

The UN wants The United States citizens disarmed. Nixon even signed something to that effect in 1968.

in 1976 he thought it would take 7 - 10 years to:

Slow production.... - 40 years later that hasn’t worked out so well.
Register Handguns - currently at least 100 million that will never be registered.
Make Possession Illegal - AFTER CWII the losers won’t be in a position to implement.

If we really wanted to stop gun violence we should go about it in much the same way as Philippine leader Rodrigo Duterte has done... Go after those who commit the crime. The more of them you hang from the light post, the less crime we will have..

AND BUILD THE STINKING WALL NOW..!!

MHO.......

The reason I didn’t get a Criminal Justice degree from my first college (I went to 2), was the chairman of that department had a Handgun Control, Inc. bumper sticker on his office door.

The Left wants "Common Sense" gun control - but we know the Left are seriously deficient in the Common Sense department.

Almost immediately after the Las Vegas shooting came the calls for “common-sense” gun control.

"Common sense" has joined "reform" and "deregulation" as a term that has been so totally debased as to be rendered meaningless in any political context.
