The Boy Scouts of America announced plans on Wednesday to accept girls, marking a historic shift for the century-old organization.
The group cited the desire to nurture female leaders as a reason for the decision, pitting it against the Girl Scouts of the U.S.A., which operates under a similar mission.
“We strive to bring what our organization does best — developing character and leadership for young people — to as many families and youth as possible as we help shape the next generation of leaders,” said Michael Surbaugh, the group’s chief scout executive.

Think of the co-opting that will take place folks.
The Boy Scout organization is much larger. The adults pushing this hope to eventually wrestle control of the Boy Scouts.
Not only will they dominate, they will then dictate to little boys how they treat the girls, and how they intend to treat them later on.
Boys will be prevented from the clean competitions they take part in now. Now they’ll have to stuff “male-toxicity”.
You just watch as this melts down.
The people pushing this will wind up ruining the Boy Scouts as surely as they did the Girl Scouts.
And while they’re at it, they’ll screw little boys heads, just beating them to a mental pulp along the way.

You must not be aware that Scouting in founder Baden Powell’s England and many other members of the World Scouting Organizations - is coed and has been for many years
There still is a separate girl guiding organization but much smaller
There are more girls in England who are Scouts than there are boys
It is just a matter of time before you start hearing stories of Scout Masters emulating Jared from Subway.
I quit Cubs Scouts in the late 60’s because it was to chickified.
I thought we would get Barlowe knives and learn how to carve pointy sticks.
What I got was Den Mothers te aching us to trace our hand on construction paper to make Thanksgiving Turkeys with safety scissors and crayons.... BAH!
This is because a lot of the leaders are women. Men cannot be bothered raising men. Women want to keep them boys.
Although it would make that two week summer camp a lot more interesting.
They were history as soon as they allowed homosexual leaders.
The BSA is shrinking and they need bodies to justified their continuned existance.
You know, I have read every reply on these threads and I have come to realize many freepers are not aware of all the aspects of the scouting program. I am a father of two children, one boy 19 Eagle scout, and a girl 13 working towards Gold. My daughter has been a part of the boy scout program since before she could crawl. The boy scout program she has been watching has made her a better person and more self sufficient than anything the girl scouts could even think of offering. The boys in my troop are growing and learning to be good strong men. When they mature, they will be looking for good strong women. That is not how girls are being raised now.
The decisions being made at the national level are being done for political and / or adding more youth to pay into the program, but at the local level we are running our program the way it was meant to be run.
The program is run like this in other countries and it works well. society may be crumbling around us, but we are still providing a good solid program for the few that are willing to suck it up and do the hard work. Our country will need future leaders, both men and women. I guarantee you that some of those will have already cut their teeth in the BSA program. If your Troop / Pack is not run that way, then you can move to one that is. And rather than busting our chops, consider helping out the good units rather than tossing out the baby with the bath water.
Correct me if I am wrong; but, I thought they already accepted girls. It is called the Girl Scouts.
I took a group of Scouts to Blair Athol for an international jamborette 17 years ago. I discovered only the US and the Philippines had male only Scouting.

You are correct. Eagle Scout and former Scoutmaster here. The Boy Scouts have been headed down the wrong road for many years, which is profoundly sad, for them, for America, and even for me.
