NFL boss Roger Goodell says all players should stand for the national anthem In a letter to the leagues 32 teams concerning players protests against police brutality, Goodell urged them to move past this controversy and honor our flag
All NFL players should stand during the national anthem, the football leagues boss, Roger Goodell, said on Tuesday, as the controversy over protests against police brutality by players and their dispute with Donald Trump rumbled on.
In a letter to the NFLs 32 teams, Goodell said a plan was under way to move past the debacle.
Like many of our fans, we believe that everyone should stand for the national anthem, the commissioner wrote. It is an important moment in our game. We want to honor our flag and our country, and our fans expect that of us.

He added: We also care deeply about our players and respect their opinions and concerns about critical social issues. The controversy over the anthem is a barrier to having honest conversations and making real progress on the underlying issues.
We need to move past this controversy, and we want to do that together with our players.
Although Goodell did not specify if and how the league plans to ensure that players stand during the anthem, his letter suggested the issue will be discussed during a series of regularly scheduled NFL meetings set to take place next week. Under current NFL policy, it is recommended that players stand during the national anthem but not required of them.

Thank you for the mention.
Sounds reasoned to me.
As someone else said. Trump may have been trying to give Pence cover.
I think it’s pretty dicey the concept that the president can order his vice-president to do something like this.
Hey Rog...
Too little.
Too late.
Too bad.
Standing is one thing. But standing WITH HAND OVER HEART is another. If they don’t show the standard proper respect, then the standing means nothing.
And even then, I’m not convinced, as they HAVE to be TOLD to show respect. Bye bye NFL.
From here on out a players ability to ply their trade in this league will hinge on their respect for this country, represented by the word NATIONAL in the National Football League.

You are quite the optimist. And far more forgiving than I.
Yep
:)
“Rove is a pimple on the naion’s ass.”
Rove is the hole in the nation’s ass...only putting out what is not wanted or needed.
“Asked” is not “ordered”. Pence did what Pence wanted to do and the President supported what he did. Pence was elected to his position in his own right, just as the President was. Pence had free will and the votes of the people to fill his position, just as the President did. The fact is that he and the President were on the same page.
And it was spontaneous in the sense that it would only happen if something else happened. Something else did happen, so Pence chose then to do what he said he would do. Had the players respected the flag and country, Pence and his wife would have stayed the full game.
Can’t argue with that.
The Media called it “a stunt”. (As though Liberals don’t pull stunts).
