NFL boss Roger Goodell says all players should stand for the national anthem In a letter to the leagues 32 teams concerning players protests against police brutality, Goodell urged them to move past this controversy and honor our flag
All NFL players should stand during the national anthem, the football leagues boss, Roger Goodell, said on Tuesday, as the controversy over protests against police brutality by players and their dispute with Donald Trump rumbled on.
In a letter to the NFLs 32 teams, Goodell said a plan was under way to move past the debacle.
Like many of our fans, we believe that everyone should stand for the national anthem, the commissioner wrote. It is an important moment in our game. We want to honor our flag and our country, and our fans expect that of us.

He added: We also care deeply about our players and respect their opinions and concerns about critical social issues. The controversy over the anthem is a barrier to having honest conversations and making real progress on the underlying issues.
We need to move past this controversy, and we want to do that together with our players.
Although Goodell did not specify if and how the league plans to ensure that players stand during the anthem, his letter suggested the issue will be discussed during a series of regularly scheduled NFL meetings set to take place next week. Under current NFL policy, it is recommended that players stand during the national anthem but not required of them.

Hey Rog - I will start THINKING about watching an NFL game after you, the owners, and the players publicly apologize for offending your fans. Until that happens, you really have not learned anything.
Roger Goodell is simply a smarmy ba$tard!
Whatever happened to that Oakland A’s ball player that knelt? Booted down to the Bad News Bears team? Anyone know cause he sure hasn’t been seen or heard from since. Which I say is good by the way
“We also care deeply about “
That’s another one of those “political phrases” that when I hear or see it, my sphincter grabs a hold of the chair cushion. Some of the others are “comprehensive reform,” “common sense solution,” etc.
The horse has already left the barn, Roger, and you’re the one who left it unlocked.
Who cares? What is the NFL?
Look for the NFL owners to Weinstein him.
Yep
Trump Wins. Again. Even on something as silly as this. Goodell thought that he himself was a big-time winner. He had really built the NFL brand, up from the multi-millions to the multi-billions. He thought he was a boss. And Trump just crushed his spleen. On the side. Without breaking a sweat. He’s like Neo blocking Smith’s punches in the Matrix.
Best. Election. Ever!
It’s gratifying to see that the players are well on the way towards getting their heads straight.

Too late. NFL is toast.
Huh?
The unemployment line it is.
Destroy the nfl!
If the NFL apologies, and it is credible, they can recover.
Look at it this way, I don’t think it is far from the truth to say that there were very few owners comfortable with the protests. They didn’t want to get in the way of it because the union would have made life hell on them, even though no other person in the country gets to go to work and make protests on someone elses nickel.
As such, they let it go, and it was a huge mistake, because it was difficult for anybody to see how the flag and anthem had anything to do with the plight of African Americans in the US.
They got the message. They were wrong. They paid the price and will continue to pay the prices. From here on out a player’s ability to ply their trade in this league will hinge on their respect for this country, represented by the word NATIONAL in the National Football League.
Players can choose to protest going forward as they have before. They just won’t be able to play, and will not earn a paycheck if they do.
The thrill is gone baby.
I love that! I may steal it!
Or we could lose millions of dollars. Proofreading a good thing. Thanks for catching that.
Exactly. They have revealed what their true sentiments are regarding this country.
