The owners of the NFL are reportedly considering a rule change that would make it mandatory for players to stand during the national anthem.

A league spokesman said that the owners would discuss the potential change during a meeting next week, Dow Jones reported...

In September, the president renewed discussion about the protests when he urged owners to "fire" the "son of a bitch" who kneels during the anthem.

This is exactly what happened with the NBA more than 20 years ago. They ended up writing the specific requirements for player conduct during the national anthem into the collective bargaining agreement between the NBA and the player’s union.

It’s not enough just to make them stand, but stand properly at attention with hand on heart and eyes on flag. And no protest antics before or after.

Stand and display black power fists in the air? You know, the fists that mean “death to whitey”.

I hope not! Let them show us their loyalties. Keep reminding us why we should end our dependence on spectator sports and entertainment celebrities who hate our nation.

Too late - I now know how the NFL players feel about me and my country.

There is already a code of conduct that covers the flag/anthem ceremony before games.

I bet every player contract contains a clause which prohibits players from *embarrassing* or otherwise bringing controversy, humiliation or other shame on their team or on the NFL.

All that is needed is to enforce the contracts?

There seemed to have been a conflict in meaning.

Supposedly, there was a ‘policy’, but it was not considered as a ‘rule’. Thus, one could violate the ‘policy’ and be okay, but one could not violate the ‘rule’.

That should clear things up for you. :)

I’ll believe the players who enlist in the US military. The rest are ISIS to me.

I’ve been through with the NFL since they:
Made the military pay big money for those “patriotic” displays
Refused to have rifle ads during the superbowl
Insisted that their millionaire felons killing their wives meant I need to give up my gun.
Got tax payers to pay for their stadiums.
Let Colin do his knee thing even just once.

If this is what it took for everyone else to see what the elitists at the NFL think of normals and veterans, then good, I’m glad this happened.

I thought this was already a rule? There has been one pointed out that the owners and players were ignoring. Maybe this is a bet of sleight of hand to try and recover some credibility and attempt to win back boycotters?

it’s a start. a slow, pathetic start, but a start nonetheless. once you get them to show respect for the flag, get rid of the criminals, thugs, and those who embarrass then nfl by their conduct. if they can’t be role models then they don’t belong in the sport.

when the nfl is rid of thugs, wife beaters, animal abusers, blm types, etc... THEN and only then will I reconsider watching...if I haven’t found something better in the meantime

I still think there’s an ulterior motive to these anthem tantrums, that being the players wants some type of concession to behave.
