There is nothing positive about a tattoo, like it or not.
Once was the purview of a drunken sailor. Unfortunately most getting them now are sober. On women they are disgusting if larger than a quarter.

And not without good reason. A slob who shows up with neck tattoos may be the best person in the world, but he’s not getting the job because of the vast number like him who are not. Piercings and gaudy bling aren’t a good selling point either.

Just curious. Have you ever gone to a job interview with your tattoo visible and the prospective employer asked you something like: “What’s up with that?”
Tattoos do reflect character and behavior, in general. A I said there is nothing positive about them. No one will say I am not hiring you because you have NO tattoos.

I’ve been in my current field for 30 years. It’s a small community and just about everyone knows my name and my reputation. I could get prominent tattoo and I don’t think it would affect my job prospects.
On the other hand, if I’m right out of college and I got a tattoo of something other than 82nd Airborne or USMC or USS Ronald W Reagan, then that tat is going to hurt my prospects of getting in the door.
And the stupider the tattoo the better chance I won’t be getting a call back.
I was at the beach yesterday and just about everyone over 18 and under 30 had some trite tattoo, whether it be a cartoon character or some trite proverb or a picture of Our Lady of Guadalupe (this is Mexi-California), whatever.
There were also some guys with gang tattoos. Generally Gang Tattoos are there so you can’t ever get a real job. Once you are in the gang, you work for the gang - you don’t quit and go flip hamburgers at McDonalds or go on to become an accountant. You get out when you check out.
For what it’s worth, it didn’t prevent my being promoted to this position.
I agree that tattoos may not be a great idea, depending on context and content. My issue is with the blanket judgement that anyone who has a tattoo is irresponsible or a criminal.
No doubt its defenders will soon show up here.
There are always exceptions and outliers, but there’s no question that having a tattoo doesn’t help your cause in the professional world.
I was speaking of a responsible business not one based on aberrant behavior. He probably wouldn’t be hired as a bouncer in a brothel without one, either.

Yes, it makes sense for employers to go with the averages. You're not likely to get most jobs if you show up in a bathing suit, either.
No, it’s making a judgement when you only have a few seconds to judge a person, it’s just human nature, and it isn’t going to change.
In the halcyon days of my misspent youth, tattoos on women were a tremendous time-saver; allowing me to quickly distinguish between the possible and the probable. Smoking served a similar function; and, regarding a tattooed woman who smoked, it was simply a question of when, not if.
If that girl is unmarried, she’s going to seriously diminish her prospective suitors.
Might end up working at a convenience store her entire life.
