ICE director signals 'at-large arrests' over new California sanctuary law
The Hill ^ | October 7, 2017 | Rafael Bernal

The country's top immigration cop said Friday his agents "will have no choice" but to conduct workplace and neighborhood immigration raids in light of California's new sanctuary law.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Acting Director Thomas Homan said in a statement Friday that California Gov. Jerry Brown's (D) decision to sign the law, SB54, would "undermine public safety and hinder ICE from performing its federally mandated mission."

(snip)

"ICE will have no choice but to conduct at-large arrests in local neighborhoods and at work sites, which will inevitably result in additional collateral arrests, instead of focusing on arrests at jails and prisons where transfers are safer for ICE officers and the community," Homan warned.

Homan also warned that under SB54, ICE would "likely have to detain individuals arrested in California in detention facilities outside of the state, far from any family they may have in California."

I think it is fair to say that NONE of us, or almost none of us, favor ‘at large arrests’ whereby some innocent American citizens may get caught up in the raids to get the illegals

but I do understand the apparent need to do things like this so long as the State of Californication is in insurrection

let’s hope that the feds can round up the illegals while finding fast and accurate ways of releasing any real American citizens as quickly as possible...that get swept up in the raid nets

There is absolutely nothing in sb54 that is sanctuary

Really

Is CA law enforcement planning on notifying and allowing immigration enforcement into their courthouses and jails when they have suspected illegals in custody?

They should also be arresting the enablers: The politicians and bureaucrats who create the “Sanctuary cities”.

Um, I have no problem with it. They check you out and then arrest you if you are a problem.

It’s like a cop running your license plate through a scan.

Great first step... to reduce government costs, they should carpool with whoever enforces labor law... hit every “day worker center” from Chula Vista to Smith River as the first order of business. Hasn’t the left been saying for years to penalize the employers that hire illegals? What better place to start?!

They skunked themselves with that little stunt. Now wondering where it escalates to from here. Maybe Brown will have a Governor George Wallace moment - standing behind a lectern at a Home Depot parking lot with state police, telling ICE "sanctuary now, sanctuary tomorrow, sanctuary forever!"

4 months ago the head of the CAL senate Kevin De (added for ethic emphasis) Leon admitted half his family is illegal and he helps them. No investigation, no arrests. When a mayor and city council implement a policy to not call ice when they release an illegal from jail and they rape, rib, or murder someone those politicians are culpable in murder. Nothing happens.

Quite humorous how badly Jerry’s virtue signaling is going to hurt those he intended to help.

I think he should be arrested — the reason, California usurped authority no its own.

Immigration law is rightfully foreign policy with domestic policy implications, but it is not domestic policy; it rightfully is the jurisdiction of the federal gov’t.

Bring busses and backup SWAT teams if necessary. If California officials interfere, arrest them and put them in the busses with the illegals .... make sure they handcuff them to one of their Hispanic buddies.

You don’t understand. They don’t even want immigration in their courts or jails, schools, hospitals etc...The locals are not going to bring them in.

And btw, I’ve heard the 800 number argument. Just so you know, California passed over 900 laws in 2016 alone. In one year!

It’s a mad house!

The next law that will come out of Sacramento that protects the illegals will be a law that voids federal jurisdiction within the state. These whack jobs will get serious about pushing for secession. They’ll show that Trump fellow who the bosses are.
