ICE director signals 'at-large arrests' over new California sanctuary law
The Hill ^ | October 7, 2017 | Rafael Bernal

The country's top immigration cop said Friday his agents "will have no choice" but to conduct workplace and neighborhood immigration raids in light of California's new sanctuary law.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Acting Director Thomas Homan said in a statement Friday that California Gov. Jerry Brown's (D) decision to sign the law, SB54, would "undermine public safety and hinder ICE from performing its federally mandated mission."

(snip)

"ICE will have no choice but to conduct at-large arrests in local neighborhoods and at work sites, which will inevitably result in additional collateral arrests, instead of focusing on arrests at jails and prisons where transfers are safer for ICE officers and the community," Homan warned.

Homan also warned that under SB54, ICE would "likely have to detain individuals arrested in California in detention facilities outside of the state, far from any family they may have in California."

Odds are at least half of the comments to this thread will be about Clinton not receiving the justice she deserves.

Home Depot express..!!!

There’s a CROWD of them in front of each HD, all the time in Calif, staring at all comers.

TOTAL impunity and they act like it, too.

Usually they have no flags or banners, though:

Should Jerry Brown be held for contempt, or whatever?

I am still just getting used to the thought that our nations leader wants laws enforced. It has been one long Christmas morning since last January.

Good strategy. The Black and Latino petty criminals will be highly irate to be swept up in these general dragnets.

The government of the state of California is in open rebellion against the Federal Authorities.

The United States Army should be enlisted in the arrest and trial of the entire State government for treason.

Nothing short of a couple of firing squads will deter other rebels.

This made me happy last night, listening to John and Ken on the way home. Now the illegals that CA tried so hard to protect will be rounded up like cattle, whole families, whole factories or farms!!! I could die laughing!! If they hadn’t pushed so hard for their phony “sanctuary,” all that would have happened would have been ICE coordinating with local law enforcement to get the felon illegals from jail and deport them. No kids, no families. Now they can round them up like in the old days! La Migra! Vaminos!

SB54 they are painting it out to be.

In fact, it’s nothing more than a giant head fake.

They essentially describe over 800 crimes which are deportable in sb54

This is Much Ado About Nothing in Trump really should Twitter to Jerry Brown “ thank you. Totally agree with your position that those are criminal Elements which should be prosecuted and deported”

There is absolutely nothing in sb54 that is sanctuary, Sanctuary light or anything like that.

I think that California lawmakers & the governor himself should be arrested for blatant disregard for Federal Law. Just as any ordinary citizen would be arrested.

Ha, yeah, sure. Don’t bet on that happening EVER. ICE can’t find an illegal in a Mexican protest parade in front of the governor’s office.

That’s an interesting (and surprising) take on the state law. You gave me an “aha” moment. Let’s see if you’re right...

If ICE has the intelligence capability, they should identify the wealthy and powerful in California that hire illegal maids, gardeners and other employees. Then not only arrest “the help”, but refer their employers to the IRS for tax evasion.

The tens of thousands of such workers, maybe more, would add up to some serious bread. All told, employers must either pay or withhold 15.3% of the money for the FICA payments. And this doesn’t even count the substantial California employer taxes.

Fat cats like the governor, high offices and the leadership of the legislature themselves likely employ dozens of illegals directly.
