Amazon has decided that its growth over the next 10 to 15 years requires a second headquarters, or HQ2. It's asking cities with populations of more than 1 million to submit proposals by Oct. 19. That has set off a frenzy from cities and states across the U.S. and Canada for its up to 50,000 new jobs and $5 billion investment over the next decade.
1. What does Amazon want?
A stable and business-friendly environment.
Urban or suburban locations with the potential to attract and retain strong technical talent.
Communities that think big and creatively when considering locations and real estate options.
Located within 45 minutes of an international airport and connected to mass transit.
8 million square feet of office space in nearby buildings, 100-acre site ready to build on or a combination of either in a pedestrian-friendly setting.....

so they want out of Seattle by the looks of it.
My bet is still on Austin.
Im told there is billions of dollars of new investment going up at the Geo Bush75 corridor. That location meets criteria for mass transit and 45 min to DFW
And they want Texas’ 38 electoral votes.
This is in addition to the Seattle HQ.
For the moment, anyway.
You may have nailed it.
I’m wondering if the DC area is a contender. Bezos bought the WaComPost. Maybe that is enough control in DC and he is branching out?
And the future. Amazon is getting ready for the day they control more of the retail economy than they do today. Twenty years from now they'll probably be looking for their third headquarters site.
“My bet is still on Austin.”
Maybe, recently acquired Whole Foods HQ is located there. But, there are some very attractive locations in the DFW in the competition that I think are favorable over Austin. But, we all may be surprised when the winner is announced. Should be interesting for sure....
One thing is sure, it won’t be in the Dallas city limits. That is a very dysfunctional city hall. More likely in Fort Worth near Alliance Airport if it comes at all.
I was thinking that I wouldn’t count on Amazon staying in Seattle. And whichever locale gets Amazon better be prepared. My bet on that one is that state and local taxpayers are gonna be on the hook for one mother of a big bribe...er, incentive.
No way. This is part 2.
We have a great chance at this. Motor City!!
I love you Dan Gilbert.
It’s a SECOND headquarters.
At the moment.

Agree with that. And, also with the area you’re referring to. Perot/Hillwood is big in this area and has the bandwidth and expertise to pull together a strong coalition of municipalities, politicians, academics, community leaders, etc, to put together an enticing offering. There are some others in the metroplex capable of this as well.
Memphis is offering $60M + tax breaks, infrastructure.
