Based on the Early Reports, the Las Vegas Shooting Is Very, Very Strange
National Review ^ | 10-2-2017 | DAVID FRENCH

Posted on 10/03/2017 3:31:00 AM PDT by servo1969

As virtually everyone has noted from the abundant video footage of the incident, it certainly sounds as if the shooter used either fully-automatic weapons or semi-automatic weapons modified (through, for example, a bump fire stock) to closely simulate automatic fire. Moreover, the police are reporting that he had “more than 10 rifles.” He apparently rented his corner room for days and may have even set up cameras to detect when police were approaching. That’s all strange enough, but it’s even more unusual when you consider that his own family apparently didn’t know that he maintained a stockpile of guns.

[snip]

Put all this together, and the shooting is flat-out bizarre. It’s significantly different from virtually any other mass shooting in U.S. history. If the weapons were fully automatic, then he likely would have spent immense sums of money to obtain them legally, jumping through extensive legal hoops.

[snip]

So, a person who’s “not a gun guy” has either expended untold thousands of dollars to legally purchase fully-automatic weapons, somehow found them on the black market, or purchased and substantially modified multiple semi-automatic weapons — and did so with enough competence to create a sustained rate of fire. This same person also spent substantial sums purchasing just the right hotel room to maximize casualties.

[snip]

Given the firepower and the packed mass of people, it’s easy to see how the casualty count was so high, even firing from an extreme range (by the standards of mass shootings.) This was the University of Texas tower attack on steroids, conducted out of nowhere, with meticulous planning and at great expense, from a person who doesn’t seem to fit any normal profile of a mass shooter. There is much we have yet to learn, but for now, this is one of the most chilling and mysterious events I’ve ever seen.

First of all, how do YOU know when the room was booked?

Second, it was a suite, not the typical room booked way in advance.

Third, typically, full booking is not 100% occupancy. That is typically set at about 80-85%.

Fourth, I got the same size room just a few floors down a week before going there during the Barrett Jackson event, hosted by Mandalay in 2011. We were in Vegas for the Rolex Championship Banquet that was held at Bellagio. Most of the team stayed at Venetian. I think I had to pay about $500 a night for it. Other available rooms in town were going for over 700.

Fifth, I have a family member who has worked at Mandalay since it was opened. I have never had a problem getting a room there, I just had to pay for what was available under the friends and family deal they have there. Maybe that local is nothing more than a check-out at the local Wal-Mart, maybe not but putting credence is anonymous sources is not looked on which much credibility, especially her on FR.

We don't know that daddy's bank money was recovered. Once statute of limitations is past, its finders, keepers.

Bet momma knows a lot and she handled the loot. ('cept Uncle Sam wants the taxes...like that will happen.)

Keep looking for a motive in my head. Did his one and only bud get killed via a Fast & Furious weapon? Is the gun among his cache?

Dave, we all agree with you. Hillary would have handled this MUCH BETTER than Trump.

...at a minimum, she would not let a pesky ‘Amendment’ stop her from confiscating the guns, as she well know that Merrick and the other Leftists on the Court would have had her back.

Right Dave? Right? She was your ‘man’, wasn’t she? She certainly was the choice of everyone else at NRO, at a minimum, right Dave, as that Trump guy was TOTALLY UNCOUTH? Am I missing something, Dave?

That’s what I was thinking. (Crankfire) Listening to his shots, with the ascending and descending rate of fire, it was obvious he was using some type of mechanical actuator. They weren’t full auto, in spite of what the AP says. Cause we all know they never get anything wrong. /s

My suspicion since yesterday is that the guy seems to have a lot of characteristics of a drug trafficker and/or money launderer and/or arms dealer.

Without the shooting spree, he might have pretty closely fit the mold of the George Clooney character (Danny Ocean) in the "Ocean's Eleven" movies.

The "contact" they described with him was apparently an exchange of text messages when they were checking on the 90+ year old mother in Florida during/after one of the recent hurricanes.

It sounds to me like they don't know much about the guy at all. I saw a report yesterday indicating that he had 28 different addresses over the years. That seems like a lot of different places to live over the course of a few decades.

Why suspect North Korea? Why not suspect George Soros, whom we know has been promoting leftist violence for a long time? Or what about one of our many home-grown violent leftist groups, who have been operating for years— such as ALF or ELF, the “activist” arms of the “animal rights” or “environmental” movements? Those groups have been advocating violence and the extermination of humanity for a LONG time. In today’s climate of ramped-up leftist anti-American rhetoric, why would those groups not feel emboldened?

28 addresses indicate ownership....not residency.

I know folks who own or have owned way more than 28 properties.

Recently he had been spending $10k+ a day on gambling.

That's a lot of cash. And a great way to launder money for the lower echelon of the mob's drug trade.

Why is there only 1 blurry photo of this guy with his eyes shut? They have shown a few photos of him 10-20 years younger but the only current photo is of him with the shot glass and the girl. Wtf?
